Dear All,
I have found my way to this post after watching a couple of YouTube videos by Steve from MadAboutHoovers. I was seeking some advice about a problem with our 20-year-old Miele S5981 vacuum cleaner. Having been unable to find any reference to this particular problem on trolling the internet, I suspect that the answer to my question will be short, but there's no harm in asking.....
The cleaner continues to work generally well, but has developed a problem with intermittent cutting-out of the power during use. I have dismantled the control handle to check the collar of contact rings which is said to sometimes be a cause of this issue, but they were pristine, and the cutting-out can not be associated directly with rotation of the handle itself. All the microswitches in the handle are working normally when tested with the outer casing removed.
My analysis suggests that there is a fracture in the wire in the flexible vacuum hose just below where it joins the handle, and with variable bending during use of the cleaner, an intermittent break in continuity is occurring. The problem is, it is difficult to see any way of accessing this wire (contained in a strong plastic "inner tube" for the length of the hose) in order to locate and repair the presumed fractured wire.
It seems increasingly likely that only an expensive replacement of the whole vacuum hose itself (if available) will solve my problem. However, I would be most grateful if any member can possibly offer a more practical owner-operator repair option.
