I just gave my Eureka 260EK a new bag and a polishing with Wright's Silver Polish. The serial number is 75059, and was made by Eureka Williams. When was my favorite Eureka made?

Wow…nice job Nick!
I love guessing the dates of these vintage vacs by Eureka. I would guess around 1962 or 1963. The two factors I am looking at for this are: the fact that the handle is round and not square, and the fact that the hose port cover does not have a clear plastic panel covering the top. These two features were on our Super Automatic 260 that I think was bought in 1960 or 1961. Your 260 has these two minor changes, so it must be from one or two years later than the one I grew up with. I’m pretty sure the hose port cover you have was a later version than ours since it lacks the clear plastic surface which seemed to crack very easily. And maybe Eureka went from a square handle to a round one because it was more comfortable in the hand. Does yours have a rubber hand grip? Ours did not. |

Wow! The hose port cover does light up! Just like ours did! Even without that plastic surface....pretty amazing. Wonder if the label affixed to it is painted with reflective paint...
The chrome versions of Eureka's uprights are definitely rarer....whenever I saw a dealer sheet showing a full line up for a certain year, there were always one or two chrome hoods in a group of a dozen or so models. So - yes, they are definitely quite rare. |

Wasn't it you that told me some years ago that chrome hood Eurekas were dealer exclusive models, and were produced in limited amounts? Or was that only for this generation?

Hi Huskyvacs,
No, it wasn't me who said that chrome Eurekas were dealer exclusives. I really have no idea what the marketing strategy was when the company decided to add chrome versions of their vacs to a certain line-up of models. Maybe these were designed to target commercial buyers, like hotel chains or retailers....not really sure. |
