It's amazing how much better this machine looks with the correct hose-port cover! I have a few questions: (1) Does anyone make a blue Sanitaire bag that's unlabeled? (2) When my bristles go on the square-end roller I found, is it possible to put the square ends onto a hex-end roller? Or, is it possible to replace the brush strips?

Glad you found the part you needed. Looks a whole lot better than duct tape. The brush rolls for those older Eurekas are somewhat problematic. I've never had to mess with one as all three of my Eureka/Sanitaire uprights use the hexagonal brush roll ends. That said, if the bristles are on strips, there's no reason why couldn't put new ones in. To my mind, the big consideration would be the condition of the bearings. I replaced the strips in the VibraGroomer brush roll that came in my late '70s vintage Sanitaire SC686 but I found the bearings were shot and I'd done all that work for nothing. I ended up replacing the brush roll with a brand new VibraGroomer II and it now works like a champ. As far as the bag goes, the color looks fine and if it works okay, I wouldn't worry too much about it, at least until you've got the brush roll sorted.

Glad you found the correct hose port cover, Nick!

Be careful not to crack the plastic top. The way this is made is that it has flexible blue rubber underneath to help provide a suction seal, but the top is clear plastic to provide a bit of a “glowing effect” when the headlight shines on it. We had an identical port cover on our Super Automatic 260 and somehow it got cracked in the very first years after Dad bought it for Mom. That always bothered me! Either someone pushed it into the port too hard or unevenly, or someone stepped on it when they were using the Eureka in hose-mode. Eureka should really have provided a slot in the cardboard tool carrier to temporarily hold the cover while the user was cleaning with the hose - since there was no “holding place” for this little cover, it had a tendency to get lost. I remember our cleaning lady forgetting to put it back and vacuuming in upright mode without the cover!!!!

Had a I been more “out of the vac closet” with my family, I might have written to Eureka to buy a replacement cover! That crack in the clear plastic always bothered me!!!! ☹️

Just curious

Is this model an anniversary cleaner? I'm asking because of the gold. Nice looking for sure.

The colours appearing on my iPhone look like it has a polished silver chrome motor hood (not gold) and Eureka’s famous “Lagoon Blue” on the bumper and base. The 1959 anniversary edition would have had a creamy beige motor hood, green base and bumper, and gold headlight frame. I don’t think they ever did a chrome version of the 1959 green anniversary edition….

Yep! It's all chrome!

It's all chrome. And, it looks like the clear plastic was already gone from the cover before I got it (I had to give it a very thorough cleaning)
