I bought a handheld on ShopGoodwill....I ran it for 3 seconds and was quite noisy.
I started to take it apart and noticed the brushes are pretty much gone. I've never seen brushes like this...they appear to have springs with a copper piece and then the carbon ?? All I have seen are just springs with the carbon attached. I hope the picture shows what I'm talking about.
Can I just replace with carbon ? I don't see why not.
The brush in the lower part of the picture does not go with the vacuum....I just want to show what I'm used to seeing.

Should work, it won't hurt anything if you try it for a couple seconds with new all carbon brushes.

Can't really tell from the picture. A regular brush without a wire sticking out of it should be fine as long as it fits in the guide properly.
