Hey, I’m presently restoring a Kirby 518 and was looking for carbon brushes, I see many sellers selling brushes stamped hg22 claiming they fit 505 to the 1cr while others sell different brushes for the 505-d80. My question for you more experienced builders is there a difference? Many thanks in advance

Hello ??? (cousineddy).

The 'current' (pardon the pun~lol) brushes we get from the company are stamped with "hg22" on them. This can (& has) varied over the years, & depending on the supplier used, (especially right now with the supply chain issues).

And to answer the second part of your question, without seeing the 'other' brushes, it's hard to say whether they are the same or not?!?!?!

Also, 1CR brushes are not the same as the older models. That changed to the rectangular brushes (larger) in 1970.

I hope this clarifies things.

If you (or anyone) have further questions about this or other Kirby questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers & hagd/n all,

Bill

You'd be looking for these... stamped "B75" on them.

Also, because I see you're from Canada, your 518 would have been known as the 616, and it was license-built for your country by Switson Industries.
