Hi All,

I have a slightly unusual post regarding my Dyson V8 and it is activating my OCD unfortunately.

I've noticed when I go to pull up on the red lever to empty the product, the lid of the bin does not shoot open like it shows on the Dyson videos.

The lid appears to need to be 'teased' open with my finger once the I have lifted up on the red lever. So the lever mechanism is releasing the bin lid, but its not obviously not opening it. Has anyone else come across this and is there a solution to this or is it something I need to just put up with? It's only a minor thing, but it has set off my curiosity.

I've also noticed that once I have had the bin lid opened, I then try and open the lid several times after and it opens up fine.

Has anyone else come across this issue with Dyson bins. It doesn't feel very hygienic having to touch the lid to get it to open. I do prefer bag when it comes to emptying.

Sounds like the rubber seals have dried out. Usually happens if someone tries to Clean them.

Take the bin off completely and carefully remove the seals. Wash everything throughly (if you have a dishwasher put the seals and bin lid in there.

Once everything is dry, get some talcum powder and with your fingers, use it to lubricate all the rubber seals. Then put the seals back on the bin and this should resolve it.

Thank you so much for the advice!

Its interesting you say about the seal drying out as the bin is only bin in use for 8 months as the previous one cracked off after accidently bashing the cleaner into a sofa leg a few times.

I've not cleaned the seals before as I just empty the bin and then use the machine. I noticed that the V8 bin would sometimes 'leak' dust from the lid area in use, thought the bin seals were worn out, but this new bin does the same. I thought it was supposed to keep the dust within itself.

I will do as you suggested. Thanks again.
