The model tag should be on the inner side of the top half. You are missing the water basin and dolly mainly.
It's always worthwhile to save a vacuum, and when you get a vacuum for $7 every single part will be more than that. The dollys are about $25-$30 last I checked and the water basin about the same. I have a D4 that needs repair too that someone possibly blew up sucking up racing fuel. |

The D4, the SE, and the PE are all D4 models. The SE designates that it came with an electric hose for the power nozzle, and the power nozzle handle could stand upright by itself. The PE was a change to the electric hose handle and added the Performance Edition power nozzle. The motor units were all identical in construction.
All D4 versions use the same water pan. The original dollies changed cosmetically, but they all fit all versions of the D4. The first thing to do is to remove the separator and clean it and the area/ring it sits on. The bearings might be dry or shot, you won't know until you get it clean first. When you turn it off, if it squeals or sounds rough, you need to replace the bearings. The D4 came out in 1986, The SE in 1991, and the PE in 1995. It (the D4 series) ended in 1998. The Rainbow (PE) in the picture is mine. It's still new in the box.
