Looks great!! Love the brush mechanism on the Sweeper Vac. How does it perform on carpet?

You do such amazing work.

The Sweeper-Vac sure had to be fun to work on. There's so much to it. They were trying to get around the Hoover patents by having a gear-driven belt and no wheels on the nozzle. That was the first machine that would let you shut off the brush, but since it didn't have wheels on the nozzle, it would scratch bare floors.

The Sturtevant is very nice. I have a model 15. Those wires in the step down part to make it a 2 speed motor sure do look scary. I have not rebuilt my model 15, but when I do I will use your pics for reference points.

Thanks again for all the pictures and the wonderful work you do.

Don't you just love it when you pay over $100+ for a vacuum and the seller ships it like that? (the Sweeper-Vac)

What is that strange cage setup on the Stuartvant? Some kind of filter, or isolator or what? Never seen anything like that before.

That the 2 speed switch. They run the power through some kind of rectifier thing. I didn't understand it at first when I got my Sturtevant, but I understand it now. The very next model they built (for Singer) had the 2 speed switch in the handle.

Amazing restorations!!

I may still have the owners manual for the above Sweeper-Vac.Never had the vac but did once find one actually worse than above but could not get.I moved some file boxes today with vac literature so may be able to find.

Out of curiosity, do you still have the old Hoover bag? I'd love to give it a home.

As always, you've done an amazing job restoring these machines! They're absolutely beautiful! And from seeing the before pictures, I can tell you did a tremendous amount of work to get them that way.
Jeff

S-V owners manual

Looked in 8 file boxes of vac literature and did not find.Hoping to transfer these and MORE to file drawers. As I recall it had nice covers and string to hang as was typical of period and showed S-V shipped in 3 wooden boxes(motor-bag/handle/attachments).

Jimmy—

You have two machines I’d really like to purchase from you. We should connect as I am only a five hour drive. Do you text perchance?

Thanks all!
Videos of everything coming up later this weekend. These were fun…albeit some of my more challenging restores! Just a lot of parts and sooo much motor work. A lot was unknown about the condition of the worm drive in the sweeper vac, but it seems happy and healthy!

Next up… the Singer A1 Upright and a bunch of early Scott & Fetzer products!

Kyle,

Sorry just to be clear, are you interested in 2 of Jimmy Martin's vacs or 2 of my vacs?

Jim

The worm drive resto is insane. Then the electrical on the Stuartvant Wirth the 2 speed cone is nuts. It went from its going to burn down the house to its beautiful safe and looks new.
This is a cool thread.
