Well, after managing to free the brush strips that felt like they were superglued from a sanitaire’s brush roll, I struggled to put the new ones in because they kept losing the groove. Then came time for reassembly, and here I sit dumbfounded. I got a brush roll dowel that’s not sitting flush against the bearing caps. I’ve dealt with Hoover dowels a few times (2 different vacuums) which are a little similar to sanitaire in the basic bearing holder acting as ends for a dowel, but I’m just dumbfounded here. It looks to me like somehow the dowel is bent out of shape or warped or something like that, but looks can be deceiving. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a trick to getting the ends back on?

I had the same problem with the VG1 brush roll in my Sanitaire SC686. Changing out the brush strips looked so very easy but was a total pain. Then, when I got the thing back together, it wouldn't spin. I lubed the hell out of it and tried to tweak the torque on the bolts at each end but nothing worked so I eventually gave up and just replaced it with a VGII. I love that parts for these machines are so plentiful and cheap but it can be a very slippery slope.

My only guess is maybe it was machine pressed? I'd get another brushroll and pay attention to how its assembled and compare with yours, maybe something fell out of place.

Replacing Brush Strips

Hi,

Just went through this with a Rainbow PN3 on the SRX installing Heavy Duty black on black strips. Arguably the most fun I've had with my clothes on in years. I removed all four at the same time and had trouble keeping the new ones in the groove and it allows the stainless roll to deform making it tough to reinstall the end caps. I put a piece of sock near the end and used some red Channel Lock pliers to get the end caps on being care full not to dent or scratch the stainless. Big difference in the nozzle performance of the SRX. Not impressed with the "New" PN3 design. There is definitely a lot to like in the Sebo and Lux nozzle designs and I don't like the PN3 compared to the side-drive PN12 of the E2 Black. Hope this helps.

Brian
