Hi!
I just bought a Eureka 260 in chrome, but it's missing the little cover from the hood. Where would I find a replacement?

If I remember correctly
On this model, it's a plate that comes out for using a hose. If anyone has a spare part, it'd be awesome! It's the white part from this photo posted to this forum in 2007.

Parts are readily available online but exact ones for older machines may be harder to come by. It appears to me what's missing is the height adjustment (Dial-A-Nap?) knob. I'm not sure what it would look like for that particular model, possibly a knob with a backing plate. To get an idea of exactly what you need, I'd suggest doing some Internet research to find a photo of one that is intact. The nice thing about those Eurekas is the design changed very little over several decades so there are tons of compatible parts across multiple Eureka and Sanitaire models, so even if you don't find the exact thing, you can find something that works. Someone has already done this with the Sanitaire bag on that machine. You can easily make it whole in the sense of being fully functional, even if it isn't exactly as it left the factory.

If
if the plate is a door for covering the hose port it wont have height adjustment.
Cut out a piece where the rugilaor goes. Remove the rugulator. Paint it white and use painters tape off the plate. You basically make the cut out plate match original. If you install it you could put hinges and use rivets on one side with a hinge. You could also put weatherstrip around the edges and install. You'd have to pop it off to install the hose. To be honest your not going to find a replacement plate the super rare. That's why I gave you a few ideas on making your own. | ||

The Eureka Super Automatic 260 is from about 1960. Rugulators and Dial a Naps did not arrive on the scene until 10 years later.
Indeed, you are missing the hose port cover. I’m sure these went missing a lot over the years. But the vacuum is unusable without one as the suction now leaks out through the port. Keep searching for Eureka Super Automatic Upright 260 on the internet. You may be able to track down a similar cleaner that could be used as a donor machine. | ||

Indeed, you're very fortunate to have found that piece so quickly. It was definitely meant to be. I was just thinking this is the type of part that would be well suited for 3d printing.
As for why some Eurekas were shiny metal and others were painted, I guess it's a matter of trim level. Interestingly, the commercial Sanitaires were all shiny metal to begin with, although many newer ones have gray plastic covers instead. | ||

The way eureka operated in 2005-2010 was there is a red line and blue line. Red was commercial and blue consumer. I seen the base blue line painted and the economy red line.
The red line has a 5 amp motor. The consumer base was branded eureka and yellow 5 amp or grey 5 amp. I think TOL are chrome lower models were painted. | ||

Indeed, Eureka Williams had a tradition of offering the same upright in both a chrome steel version and a white or beige version or blue or green version.
That tradition started with the 260 Super Automatic and continued for almost 20 years into the late 1970's. The contoured Continental uprights of the late 1970's were offered in either moss green or chrome. In fact, the Compact vacuum company contracted Eureka to produce a Continental upright in chrome for them....very cool!!!! | ||
