I have always loved the cool "flying E" logo of the Eureka Williams company...see my avatar. Before the early 1960's, the logo was basically an "E" and a "W" in a box.
It just dawned on me that the newer 1960's graphic does indeed include a "W"!!!! If you look at the curvey E sideways, there it is! A sideways "W"!!! This is why the logo had to be dropped after Sweden's Electrolux bought the company in 1974. They changed the name from Eureka Williams to just The Eureka Company and so the combined "EW" graphic had to be discontinued. :-( |

I never noticed that myself. Clever of them to do that. I wonder what other company has subtle components to their logos. |

I have a Eureka 'Ironsides' canister from about 1980 and a Eureka ESP upright from 1982, both of which have a very small version of the stylized E logo incorporated alongside the all caps EUREKA word mark, so it stayed around in some form for at least eight years after Electrolux of Sweden acquired Eureka.
That said, it is kind of an interesting theory about the flying E also being a sideways W. |

I don't remember a spinning Eureka logo....just a high energy finale to many of their commercials in the late 1960's where they showed a parade of the various cleaners EW produced overlayed over the letters EUREKA, and ending with the flying E logo landing next to the company name. The voice-over confidently boasted: "Eureka. The very best in vacuum cleaners....and more kinds of vacuum cleaners than anyone else in the world. That's Eureka."
