To say I am shocked is an understatement, and to say I am relieved is a bigger one! At the moment in the UK we only have 1 budget bagged upright, the Hoover Purepower. All the other ones have slowly disappeared, and since Electrolux went all the decent bagged uprights went too. We lost Panasonic aswell in I think 2017 and no one else makes a budget bagged upright anymore, they have all been discontinued. I was doing my usual searching around online yesterday and I found a yellow and white one from Zanussi, called the airspeed lite 2. I thought it was an old stock photo or a mistake but when I looked around its in stock everywhere, on amazon aswell. I oredered one for £103 but other places are selling them as high as £165. They wernt too descriptive of it but what I can tell from the pictures it looks good! A very clean looking yellow and white design, LED headlight (not just a blanking plate where one would be!) and turbo brush for the hose aswell. It reminds me of the upright Electrolux offered before they went, cant remember what it was called. When Electrolux went it was ten branded Zanussi for a short period of time and it just reminds me of that, the old Zanussi branded one was the airspeed lite and they are calling this the airspeed lite 2. I still couldnt bieleve it, but I looked in the product specifications and its only 700w, and 80DB so it meets the new EU vacuum cleaner standards. They also do a bagless version of it aswell that looks ok, but the bagged will be better of course! I really do hope this is the start of a resurgence of bagged uprights, now that the power is limited to 700w, it will make some of the old designs more efficient. I don't know wether it comes with a paper or fleece bag though and there were no pictures of the bags there, maybe the old Electrolux bags will fit. I can't wait for mine to arrive, everyone grab one and get the sales numbers up! Ha!

Jake

We had these starting about 6-8 years ago as a really cheap offering by Sears/Kmart.
They’re very cheap, but I hope you have a great experience with yours! It’s nice to have a bagged option for sure.

I'm excited! This may encourage other manufacturers (if it sells well)

Everyone in UK please buy one, locally in a store if possible (sales metrics are reported to the MFG), and get one and leave good reviews all over and maybe send emails to the company thanking them, and hopefully if enough people do it it will cause a blip on the radar. Zansussi might make more models, and then other manufacturers will get the idea and make more bagged models to compete, and we can reverse that bagless junk back to the minority and make bagged vacuums on top again.

Not sure what bagged midrange vacuums are being sold in the USA other than the Powerforce bagged. I don't think there is any others.

Vacuums will come back. It may be in the form of a canister or a central vacs that are bagged.

We still have them...

There are still middle-of-the-Road bagged vacuums in the US. We’ve got Oreck, Hoover with their t series and windtunnel Max Bagged, and some others. We can also get Sebo uprights and maybe even some of the Miele ones as well, though I heard the U1 is being discontinued now. Some Kenmore stuff like the Intuition and older Elite models are being continued under Cleva. No shortage of bagged uprights here. Yes we have the Powerforce bagged to, but those filter poorly, as they have one-layer paper bag and no real HEPA filters. i’ve worked on a number of those in my time, and the exhaust filters on those things were always nasty; they look like what happens to a pre-motor filter on a Dyson or Shark after a few uses, and I really wouldn’t recommend them for household use. They are quite powerful tho, so I wouldn’t hesitate to use them for a camper/RV vacuum or to regularly clean a carpeted motor boat or something. Other options mentioned have HEPA bags available, so they filter better, especially those with pre-motor and exhaust HEPA filtration.

I remember those blue and yellow Kenmores. They came in both bagged and bagless and there was a slightly higher end version of both that looked just like the subject Zanussi, but in blue and silver, with that LED headlight and the turbo tool. Later there were some in a charcoal gray with lime green accents, but those may have only came in the lower end version, sans headlight and turbo tool.

I'm not sure who was the actual manufacturer of these though. It wasn't one of the typical companies that made Kenmore, from what I remember.

Pretty sure there was a version sold at Aldi also, under some other brand. I don't know if that one came in bagged or just bagless.

That European Zanussi is sold in America as the "Perfect" upright from Nationwide Sales and Service. I carry them. They are perfect for an older person who wants the weight of an Oreck but also wants attachments. I've been selling them for two years now and have never had one minutes trouble out of the ones I sold. I have sold well over 100 of them. I have a lot of older customers.

Sweden's Electrolux bought Zanussi in the 1980's - wonder if they still own the company....see link below...

Hoover 'Purepower' bagged upright

Apparently that too has been discontinued. Not even the low-powered bagged 'Enigma' variant exists anymore. Well done Hoover: your continued incompetence knows no bounds.

Anyway, good luck to Zanussi/Electrolux with the ZAN2087PT. My only concern is the short 'plastiflex' hose. I've always found stretchable hoses easier to handle for high corners, and for storing back on the cleaner.

I wonder whether the Zan2087PT has the 45° handle lock?... lower the handle, and the cleaner head pivots on the rear wheels, raising the head clear of carpet fringes, threshold strips, flex, etc. A sensible feature which the Hoover Purepower had, and the Sebo X Series lost.

So Zanussi is the real manufacturer of these, and we got these rebadged here in the US for Sears and Aldi and Perfect? That's pretty cool if so.

Anything is better than a Chinese Bagless! Hopefully this will make at least enough of a dent to get others to sell bagged ones too
