Hi!
I just bought my first Oreck, Model # XL-9100C. The Serial Number is 1334388. I was wondering if anyone could tell me when it was made, what colors it came in, and a basic history of the Oreck XL

Thanks!
Nick

I don’t think earlier Oreck vacs has date codes, but they were made around 1988-89 so that could be incorrect. They made the grey one with the square logo, and a VERY rare one in dark blue with the Oreck logo on the headlight lens.

*had
Oreck was originally a Whirlpool product, but eventually split off into their own company and name in the 70s. The rest I will leave for a collector more knowledgeable on Oreck than I.

I have the same model in light bluish gray. Serial no. 1087745, so a bit earlier than yours. Picked it up earlier this summer for less than $2 at a thrift shop. I put a link to the thread I started on it below. My understanding is date codes weren't incorporated into Oreck serial numbers until around 1997 and thus mine is effectively undated.

In the couple of months I've had this vacuum, it's sort of grown on me more than I had expected and for some things, it's ideally suited. Still, I'm seriously considering donating it to my church's rummage sale, along with a couple of other machines. I just have too many vacuums right now and need to thin the proverbial herd.

Try looking carefully at the plastics for date code 'wheels'.
I recently had a really nice trash-find XL Signature that I dated to 2009 or so.
Only disassembly I did was the bottom panel to dislodge some cardboard and replace the broke belt (poor reasons for being tossed in the trash).
My neighbor bought it on the spot.
