I recently acquired a Royal 501 handheld vacuum. It's the model with the bag that has a Wide Red Stripe on top and with Grey on the sides of the bag. The cover on the front of the machine is rubber not metal. The pictures I have are not great at the moment.

I'm trying to find any information I can on this. I can't even find what year this was manufactured. The manufacturers stamp does say Royal Appliance Mfg Co. so I have a wide range of years but that's it.

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say late 60s to early 70s.

Nathaniel,

I think your 501 is from the early to mid 1960s because of the rug plate design -- by about 1968 they changed that to the full wraparound version that ran through the end of production in the 1990s.

Nice find...

I have one almost identical to that and I agree about the approximate date of manufacture. They're great little machines. In the first photo, it appears the bag is installed upside down. I had to do that on mine when I put a paper liner in the bag. It wouldn't attach securely with the logo facing upward.
