Hoover Celebrity filter idea

Lately I’ve been thinking of ideas for making a replacement filter for the Hoover Celebrities that use the sleeve style filter. Vacuum shops I believe suggest the foam filter from a Bissell Powerforce bagless.

I had also heard of using a Shop Vac filter.

So I picked up a foam sleeve for a wet/dry vac.
I measured the height of the intake vents which is just over 2” or so,
then I cut a strip from the filter. It works out that you can get exactly
3 Celebrity filters from one sleeve with no waste!

I cut notches to go over the “hump” at the back of the cover.

It fit, but a bit loosely. Then I had an idea. I got my pack
of electrostatic vent filters. These I got at Home Depot several
years ago. I made some exhaust filters from these for
my Hoover Slimline.

I cut one filter into two long strips. Lay it inside the foam
filter. It was the exact width of the foam. Then I cut the
length of both pieces slightly to fit and cut the “notch”
again for the “hump”.

I think my invention looks great, almost factory.
Now the filter seals to the housing, and now
You get electrostatically charged allergen filtration.

It looks very similar to the pre motor filter in
modern bagged canisters and clean air uprights.
Foam on bag side electrostatic on motor side.

My only concern is will it be too thick? I think
the foam itself is about the thickness of the
original. I’ll have to try it out and see. I don’t
have a suction meter or Kill A Watt though.

Checkrate/Likes *Celebrity filter* Should work great and be BETTER than original.With age genuine original filters can turn to dust even in the factory packaging.

Checkrate/Likes 1 *I've used air conditioner filter material* when they wore out. I believe the package says "Frost King". Worked wonders so far.

Checkrate/Likes 1 I wrapped a silver king flat disk around the center post for some extra filtration. One could trim it up a bit more and secure it with a rubber band if you wanted to look cleaner. View Full Size

Checkrate/Likes 1 Not just Celebrity-I use the SK filter discs is my central vacuums-just place it over the foam filter in the vacuum under the bag.These filters are useful in OTHER vacuums besides SK.

Checkrate/Likes Agreed, the filter material in these is almost always long gone. This cleaner actually had the filter still intact, but when I went to remove the old bag, the filter just crumbled. have used the Frost King or Duck window AC foam to make a new diffuser for the bottom of the Celebrity. I think it would work well for a motor filter combined with the white material, as it's a bit thinner than the shop vac type filter I used. The Silver King filter is a good idea too. I wouldn't have thought of that. Yes, it seems many vacuum filters can be replaced with even better than original ones with a little ingenuity.

Checkrate/Likes *I have also used...* Hey Guys! I have also used the cheap cheap polisher bonnets as they are a lesser quality terry cloth material and thus allow plenty of air flow!
