Does anyone know when the Eureka 2061D was manufactured and then sold in stores?

I recently acquired this vacuum, my first Eureka upright, ever. I'm a canister guy but was always intrigued by a few of the Eureka upright models. I do have to say this is a powerhouse of a vacuum and I cannot believe the airflow and power for a 6.5 amp motor. For me, this puts a few of the Hoover Convertibles (Model 70 and 1030) I have to shame...in my opinion anyway.

The Serial Number on the Eureka 2061D is 26663867, not sure if the last numbers date this to 1986 or 1987?

Metal Hood, Metal Handle assembly (2piece), Metal Vibra Groomer II Brush assembly and Plastic cord hooks, but the vacuum base (brown) is plastic.

Thanks in advance. :)

I'll post pictures in a bit.

I would guess early 1980's. Those 6.5 amp motors were marketed as having ESP - extra suction power. Also, Vibra Groomer 2 brushrolls made their debut in the late 1970's.

Could you post a picture? I can often date Eurekas by the graphic used for the brandname on the hood and bag.

Thanks, here are a few pictures, need to clean up the scuff marks.

I also found a YouTube video dating this to 1989? Not sure if the vacuum in the ad is the 2061D. The ESP logo on mine is different than the one in this video.

Great find! I have that model as well. I like the bag and the color scheme on that model.

Indeed - early 1980’s is my guess. Around 1985, Eureka started slanting the letters of the brandname on their vacs. Before that year, the letters were all straight, like yours.

I cannot find any results for the "D" nomenclature on the model number - not sure what that means in regards to Eureka.

However, I did find info on a Eureka 2061.

The first appearance of this vacuum was in a store ad for Gem, from the Honolulu Advertiser from Honolulu, HI on December 3, 1982.

The OCR is just gibberish, but you can make out that the ad says it is "new and revolutionary"

$119.99 in 1982 is equal to $326.20 today.

The letter at the end of a Eureka model number denotes a kind of version of the model, if it subsequently got “tweaked” in a minor way from the version that was sold when it made its debut. 2061A would be the very first version, and 2061D would be the fourth “variant”. Most of the time I can’t tell the difference. It could be a different bag or cord length or even a slight change in the supplier of one of the parts, I guess.

Ah OK, I was confused as to whether that was actually part of the model number, or a plant ID code of some sort.

I guess if this was revision "D" it probably wouldn't be the very first one, or maybe it would, but it looks like store ads do not specify that.

I think the revision/variant letters at the end of a Eureka model number could also mean a change of colour or some other cosmetic change.
