When I was a kid around the time I was in elementary school, my parents would let me bring vacuums home from the curb with two rules: 1) They had to stay on the back porch, I couldn't bring them inside 2) I couldn't plug them in or keep them. So usually I would take them apart to see what was inside and then throw them out.

I remember finding:

-Hoover Convertible - mid 1980s white/orange BOL plastic base, no headlight (I didn't take this one apart and my parents almost let me keep it I think, I wish I still had it)

-Hoover Legacy - 1992 maroon hard bag compartment with air freshener (this one had the bag compartment broken off, but I repaired it and my parents let me keep it and replace the burned out headlight bulb). The tools were all there and were literally brand new. I used to use it sometimes until I sold it at a yard sale.

-Eureka F&G metal - I think it was white, no headlight and missing bag

-Shop Vac 16 gallon 90s gray. It had bad brushes or motor.

-Kenmore MOL beige early 80s canister and light/dark blue early 80s Hoover Celebrity MOL - both at same house, missing hoses, power nozzles and attachments

We also used to have an older man in our neighborhood that rode a bike with a basket and he liked to pick up stuff to tinker with. He'd bring me vacuums and leave them on the front porch - which my parents absolutely hated.

Once he left a light gray late 80s/early 90s Kenmore canister with just the hose. I kept this in the garage and used it sometimes but the motor started making noises my dad made me throw it out.

And also a red mid 90s Kenmore upright with the chrome metal handle. This one was missing the brushroll, all melted but it ran fine. I used to use the hose and attachments kind of like a canister since the brush didn't work, but my parents made me toss it later.

That's about it for me. Unfortunately, now I'm older I never see any older vacuums or anything worth getting in the trash. I did see a newer red Dirt Devil bagless this week, but that's ALL I see anymore is new bagless vacuums you could get at Walmart. Ugh.

Also old house next door had a tan or gold BOL GE swivel top 60s or early 70s in shed. The owner let me have it - side rusted through, no hose or tools, but it did run! Took it apart and then tossed it.
