Holy cow that looks amazing!! What direction does the fan screw turn, or were you ale to remove the bearing plate and armature another way?

worth the effort.

I actually didn’t use the fan screw. I just grabbed the armature with my hand and the fan came off with no issues just by turning it I believe clockwise.

Hope that helps! I know what you mean by the screw. That threw me off for a second before I just moved the fan on its own.

Beautiful work. Looks like a new machine. I'm assuming it's wheel-powered brush?

Fantastic work as always. Will this stay in your collection or put up for sale?

She's a stunner...

That is simply a stunning transformation! When I got to photo no. 11 in the 'before' set and saw the shiny metal behind the head badge, I knew the whole thing was going to be gorgeous. The years just melted away on that one.

You did an amazing job. I have both of Stan Kann's Torringtons. There were only 2 models I believe. Stan would be very proud of the work you do.

Thanks everyone for the kind compliments!

Jim: this one is going to stay for now. If it ever doesn’t I’ll probably let people here know.

Here is a better video of the Torrington vacuuming. The power of this thing is crazy! Some of the vibrations are hear are the metal wheels on axel. They are loose to change positions based on the rug, and to control the friction Brushroll. When you roll the cleaner is interacts with two other sets of wheels that put the brush into motion.

Nice to hear what one is supposed to sound like! Maybe adding some rubber grommets on where the axle touches the spring will quiet the rattling noise?

I'm not easily impressed but that might be the best restoration I've ever seen. Very nice thanks for sharing.

Good news!

hoover300's profile picture
I got it apart! I had removed all of the screws, but, just like every part on this flood damaged vac, it was frozen in place. Some tapping on the rear shaft end got it right out.

Were you able to get the stator out? The inside of mine is filthy, and I do not see any bolts or screws that keep it in. Could just be seized, I'm not sure. Looks like the same stator as your Thor as well, was that the same kind of set up?

Thanks!

That’s great news!

It is the same stator as the Thor… I took that one out, and because of that I knew I did not want to take this one out hahaha. It’s not great. I just cleaned mine out thoroughly with small brushes and a vacuum. It’s pretty squeaky now. I would recommend the same. It involves bending metal tabs, and you have to be so, so careful. It isn’t worth it if you can avoid it.

I see

I'd like to get it out, but I do not want to risk damaging it. Are they the tabs like the one shown in the 2nd pic(below)?

If

You get a power spray the vacuum housing would be immaculate pretty quickly. It cleans the grease and dust off so you can see everything.

Well, decisions had to be made

hoover300's profile picture
I got it out! Since this Torrington would need several parts to be remade, I figured for kicks I'd remove the identical coils and try them in my Brilliant Suction Cleaner. It worked!!

The Torrington will be for parts for now, until I find another one, or an early Royal stator to use. Its amazing how many vacs use the same internals. I could not have done it without Kyle's help, thank you so much!!
