preparation for the "gallery". I spoke with Greg, the carpenter, about the things I need done.
He'll be coming here while I'm recuperating from my surgery. So, it will be the perfect time. I'm finding things I'd long forgotten about.
I've gathered up about 20 cleaners to sell. I'll post them in Supermarket. There are things I'm also gathering to sell and give at the VCCC convention in Scranton.
It's good to rediscover, pack, get rid of some stuff.
The best part is: this room is finally getting done. It will be great for everyone to see at the party at my home.
Things are happening.......................

Hey, Alex!

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
Glad to see you.
Yes, having a bit of trouble at the moment.
I won't go into it here, (not that important to the public forum), but, had the "under the hood" Cancer screenings, *brain again, breast tumor, long story.
Having some repairs, etc. I'm sure all will be fine. Oddly, this surgery is 32 yrs to the date of my last one, June 17. Wow, right?
So, luckily, the students will be gone the day before, and, I'll be home for a while. Robotic, laparoscopic. Geez!
But, everything will be fine. I'm just glad to finally be getting all of this done. It's been weeks of tests, etc.
But, IF things do not go well...... the vacuums are in my will.
Talk soon.

I may not know you well, but I am sure deep down inside you are a little bit scared and worried about the future. I wish you the best of luck and hope the treatments and surgery go well and you have a speedy recovery.

Just so you know, I have always thought very highly of your character....you are one of Vacuumland's most highly regarded and respected members, and I have the utmost respect for you and your integrity. You set the ideal example of character and conduct all of us should have here, and I personally cannot believe that certain members would DARE to attack you or question your integrity or character in any way shape or form. If you do depart this world to be with God, you are one member who will be grwatly missed here.

Regards and godspeed for a full recovery.
Rob

Rob, that was so kind!!!!!!

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I appreciate that, and all the kind sentiments from everyone.
Yes, there are a few who can't stand me, have made that abundantly clear. That's unfortunate, but, it's life. Not perfect, but, I try to be nice to people. It comes back to us, truly.
I'm sure all of this medical stuff will work out. One big test in August. Next thing is a cardiac stress test . Yikes.
I'm profoundly amazed and grateful for your kindness, Rob. And, we never met. Perhaps we will.
Talk soon.
John

John, I am glad to know that my kind words made your day and touched your heart. I meant every word of it too. I actually look forward to seeing your posts....We may appreciate different "species" of cleaners as you would say, but I do admire your dedication to all things Hoover.

Having said that, I do have 4 Hoovers in my collection now....a T Series bagless upright, Windtunnel Air upright, Windtunnel Air Pro upright, and Hoover Dimension 1000 Electronic canister vacuum. And they actually clean pretty darn good too! Now I have to find a nice Celebrity to replace the one I had to sell many years ago.

The one thing I also really like about you is, every time I see your comments you are very diplomatic and very positive in your comments towards other members. Even when sonething bad is happening, you remain dignified and respectful. I meant what I said when you set the ideal character and conduct all of us should follow....I can only imagine you are a gentleman in real life if we ever do meet.

As for the people in your life who dislike you, one thing my Mom taught me is always make yourself happy first. There will ALWAYS be people who like you, and people that hate you. Live life on your own terms, be happy and those that are meant to be your friends will be. Don't fret and worry about what you cannot control.

I will keep you in my prayers at night. Being a Christian, I know your Catholic faith and support of everyone around you is what is needed right now and is what will help you pull through. Lord knows my faith has gotten me through hard times....I just consider myself lucky to be in a really good place in life, with a wonderful man by my side. Take care and God Bless you, John.

Rob

But, I appreciate all of the good wishes from so many nice people.
It certainly makes up for all of the others.

I have some pre-op stuff Friday, Stress test in the cardiac hospital Mon. I'd climb onto the table right now, if I could. It's been a long time coming.
I was talking with Tom Anderson last night. He just had a little bit of surgery. THANKFULLY, he's making amazing progress. We're planning my Hoover 'pilgrimage', if you will, in August. I'm sure things will be ok by then.
He was telling me about his friend, Rosemary, who worked at HOOVER. One of her jobs was in the "Convertible" area. She has lots to tell. You may or may not realize it, but, the "Convertible" design actually began in the 1940s. I have the photos of "experimental design" model X. which shows the Convertible with a 'handisac', different handle bail, very different attachments, etc...........So, it was on the drawing board long before 1957.. which didn't go on sale until months after. Just some facts ye' might enjoy.
A special 'Thanks' to Kenny, also, who called me last night. Human kindness and decency: you give it.. and you get it.

I even have a T shirt with the patents on it.
Neat things.
To be continued, no doubt.

And, when I get to Tom's,

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
we can visit with Will, who recently moved there.
There will be 3 or four of us. An actual 'mini meet'....too small and informal for a convention. Conventions are a whole different thing.
Regardless, it will be a great time, no doubt. We go through file cabinets. Tom unlocks them always.I could, but won't do this all night.
Silliness, really.

Hi John,

hygiene903's profile picture
Yes, it has been quite a while since we've seen each other, at the North Canton Convention. Sure was fun, wasn't it! Can't exactly say all is well at this point, but I'm doing the best I can, all things considered.
Started out with a trip to the ER April 25 of last year with pain and swelling in my right leg and foot. They admitted me right away and after extensive testing and exploratory surgery they determined it was cellulitis that had gotten way out of hand. 4 days later I was transferred to OSU Wexner Hospital East in Columbus where I had 3 more surgeries on my foot and a pic line was installed for IV meds. I was at Wexner until May 11, when I was released and sent to a nursing home for rehab. Bedfast until about June 15, finished IV meds June 29 (3 times daily) and got to go home July 10. Healing progressed well for several months until I started having pain similar to a sprain.
Doctor sent me for Xrays, then bloodwork, MRI, and had me fitted for a fracture boot to help keep the weight off my foot. Then I was sent for white cell blood and bone scans which involved radioactive isotopes, and finally a bone biopsy of the foot, which confirmed charcot disease, which is caused by diabetic neuropathy and affects the bones and joints in the foot. They put my right foot in a walking cast with a brace which was changed weekly, but after 5 weeks with the cast it seemed like the healing of the surgical wound from last year had stopped progressing, so the doctor stopped the casts and went back to daily, then every other day dressing changes for the surgical wound, with the idea of getting it healed before we proceed further with the charcot. So, it seems like ever since last year things have been 2 steps forward and 1 step back for me, and I also haven't worked or driven a car in over a year. But I'm happy to say that other than the foot problems I've been doing fine.
Again, praying God watches over you throughout your procedures and He blesses you with a speedy recovery.
Jeff

Gene, you're very kind, indeed

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
This time next week, I'll be in the hospital. All will be fine, I'm sure.Prayer is very powerful. I'm sure some might pray that it doesn't go well. But, that's on them, not me. (nasty comments, innuendos, etc abound, but, that's everyday, it seems.)
But, Gene, you are a very kind man. Your kindness will come back to you, no doubt.

That's a lot going on.
I wish you good health as well.
We all had such fun at the 'convention', and, it really was a convention.
I hope you're well enough, and are able to attend another one.

And yes, it's been quite an ordeal that's lasted over a year at this point. I'm just thankful things didn't turn out worse, as there was a chance I could have lost my foot or leg at the onset. Keeping a positive attitude and knowing that people have kept me in their prayers have really helped a lot throughout the ordeal.
And yes, hopefully when this is behind me I'll be able to do some traveling and attend conventions and mini-meets again!
Jeff

I'm preparing the upstairs room for the construction.
I found lots of long bag Hoover Handivac bags. It seems they're hard to find.
I'm rediscovering tons of things: Hoover 'coffee can' toys, books, mugs, tape measures, Frisbees, vacuums, polishers, oh m y.
It will get and look worse before it gets better.I'll finally be able to organize my owner's manuals,, ads, parts lists, even my copies of "The Hoover Newsies". fascinating stuff.
It's a sea of boxes, paper, and bubblewrap.

Joe, thanks for giving us all a update here. Thank God he pulled through the surgery fine. I meant it when I said John would be greatly missed if he passed away. In fact, I will go as far to say that John's presence here has probably been what has kept this website from totally blowing up. Just knowing he is here probably keeps certain undesirable members in check for sure.
