Convertible. It was on June 4, 1957 that the Hoover Convertible design was patented by Henry Dreyfuss. My Hoover guru, John Gregory, mentioned that it was patented on his birthday. How fun. And now we know. Should we bake the Hoover a birthday cake and let it eat it all alone?

Stunning!

John messaged me this afternoon with much the same. We’ve been chatting recently about all of the changes the convertibles have been through. He can tell you dates, models, exactly who suggested the change, and so on. Someone has to make a documentary capturing all John’s knowledge. It’s fascinating to listen to.

Happy Convertible day!

Love my convertibles I've had through the years. So many have come and go and they all are great.

My 66 is an absolute unit and is pretty much unused and I intend to keep it looking this good.

Stunning indeed! Love the 66!

Those first Convertibles had such finished and refined look about them that seemed to fade in the 1970s model lineup. I love the minute details like the headlight trim.

I feel bad I don't have any recent pictures of it after I cleaned it up. The cord is now white again and no marks on hood or base like the picture shows

According to the world's foremost Hoover expert, John Gregory, Marilyn Monroe had an almost new Hoover Convertible when she 'passed'.

Had a model 68 that she just purchased in June, 1962 when she moved into her new home to vacuum her polar white plush carpet....it was on the police evidence list of the contents of her home in the Fox Nation documentary about her life and death. What a classy and stylish lady. She just picked bad boyfriends.

I am proud to call John a Friend

I have the pleasure of living only a little more than 2 hours away from John and there is no one that I trust more with my hoovers than him. My boyfriend Matt even loves going down and to visit, and he isn't a vacuum collector. He also thinks the world of John. HE KNOWS HOOVERS!!!! Here are some of the recent projects that I brought to him to service. Some of these should have gone in the trash, but he made them into vacuums worthy of putting in my living room on display. They sound as great as they look. Hope you had a great birthday John Gregory. Hope to see you soon.

John always makes me laugh. His stories about Jane and Marilyn and Jackie - to die for. Who knew Jackie O was such a bitch?

But thank you John G. for all the helpful information. You are really "The" Hoover guru. We should all make an annual pilgrimage to your amazing vacuum store - the land of Hoover.

Thanks again to my best friend, Hans Craig for these Hoover demonstration tools. On the left is the demonstration tool for the constellation. On the right is the demonstration tool for the convertible. So lucky to have such good friends.

Who knew that Hoover used over 50 plastic parts on the convertible? Definitely trying to cheapen it for retail sales. I guess you could say that was the beginning of the end.

The Hoovrah also blows. And it blows hard. I guess you could call it a “blow hard “.
