While digging through old newspaper ads and information on an Oreck XL 9200 I have, I found out that a lot of the ads of the period (1997 was the first time it was referred to as the 9200 by the way) are referring it as the "Hotel Upright".
I am confused as to whether this was just advertising nomenclature or was it officially the name of the vacuum? The Oreck XL 9200 I have has "Celoc Hypo-Allergenic Filter System" printed across the banner sash. I don't have a Newspapers.com account so I cannot view the ad in full and up close, but the model in the ad does have a headlight. The last photo is another ad I found from 1 year later, in 1998. |

With a simple search on David Oreck. I found this video. I would do a bit of research and draw my own conclusions. Not everything posted on here is fact. Keep that in mind. MadMan is right the Oreck was first marketed for hotels and commercial settings. Not the other way around. CLICK HERE TO GO TO Kloveland's LINK |

That model in the last pic is interesting, maybe crossover model? Has the D shaped handle, but if you look closely, the switch is on the base like older models.
I always thought the "hotel uprights" were the red 888 from the 80s, and were replaced by the green no headlight model, and replaced later by the ones they sell now. Just a guess |
