When I was growing up in the South, most homemakers made homemade "scratch" biscuits as a matter of course. After much trial and error, the home-bakers eventually got the knack of making delicious, fluffy biscuits. Everyone had their own technique but almost always yielded perfect biscuits.

I started making biscuits not long after I moved out on my own. Believe me, it took a lot of years to get them even close to perfection, but I was finally able to turn out a nice pan of biscuits. I swore I'd never use a box mix again, despite the fairly vigorous labor involved in making them from scratch.

Then I found a company on-line called "Prepared Pantry." I got a couple of their products starting with Sunday Dinner Rolls. I was rather skeptical, as making fresh yeast rolls is also difficult and time-consuming. But I decided to get a package and I have to say, they were delicious. Then I made their pizza dough mix which was good but a bit on the tough side which probably was my fault.

Along the course of the past few months I stocked up on some of their other products including a a variety of bread mixes that you can start in your breadmaker and transfer them to the oven. That really works out great.

Then I saw that the Prepared Pantry had "Just Add Water Buttermilk Biscuit Mix." Talk about skeptical! I got one package, figuring if it wasn't any good it wouldn't be a major loss.

Well, let me tell you: They are delicious! Crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. I can't rave enough about them. They're as good as any homemade biscuit I've ever had. I'll certainly be getting more.

That looks really good. I just looked at the website, they have some really nice mixes and the prices are not that bad. I signed up for the emails. I may have to send away for a few.

Hans Craig taught me how to make his Southern Buttermilk Biscuits. So easy with the pastry cutter attachment for the Hobart Mixer.
