Rubbing with a pencil eraser may help.
Also I'd make sure the socket where the power cord plugs into the hose handle isn't loose. Sometimes the tabs break off that hold it in place, and this can cause arcing during use. Sometimes the flexible cable in the telescopic wand can be a problem. I had one go bad and everything stopped working. I try not to adjust the wand too often as I think it can cause breakage in the cable. |

ibaisaic uses this stuff. I never knew about it or tried it, but I guess it works. He uses it on all his vacs.
I use a more commercial brand personally that gets through tougher corrosion. It also helps if you have a mini Dremel with some polishing bits too.
