I have an Electrolux Model G in relatively poor shape and I am trying to restore it. One of the bumpers has some large scrapes in it and I would like to remove it. I tried disassembling the machine, but it looks like I have to remove the bag chamber in order to remove the bumpers. Is there an easy way to do this? Also, the cord winder mechanism on my machine is broken. Is there an easy way to swap the internals from another cord winder into the metal housing?
Thanks.

Model G

Bumpers-The bumpers remove from the rear at cordwinder. There is a rubber clip molded into the bumper that fits in a slot in the polished CW cover. The bumpers should be held at the rear 4 inches and pulled rearward and toward the center. This is much easier if bumpers are warm from hair dryer or sitting in hot sun.
Cordwinder-After removing handle assembly, terminals from CW to switch & rear of bumpers you will find screws.CAUTION-With any cordwinder if the spring is loose it CAN CUT YOU in about 2 seconds!!It may be best to change entire CW.
Good luck.Elux G is one one the great vacs.I use 2,blue rebuilt dailt & nice tan G weekly.

Rugsucker

So once you remove the bumper from the polished cover, how can you remove the bumper from the machine's body?

Bumper

The bumpers have a metal back along the main body of the G with horizonal slots that fit over metal pins from the body. For this you do remove the bag chamber.

Bag Chamber

In that case, how can I remove the bag chamber?

Bag chamber

There are screws top & bottom. For the bottom screw remove clip on pin that door hinges on.Tap gently from smaller, smooth side to remove pin.
