It seems lately I’ve been using my Dysons and their Fantom and Amway cousins a lot in the daily cleaning rotation lately. The DC14 needs a new lower housing but otherwise everything is in great working shape. It’s too bad they stopped making their attachments like the one on the 14 instead of the awful and cheap multi use ones. I also think Fantom utilized the quick draw hose better than Dyson did. But that’s just my opinion.

Dyson Slim 18 here

I’ve had it since the early 2000s? The undercarriage asssembly is broken and the power button is finicky. It’s difficult to find the undercarriage assembly part in stock anywhere. I think it is part dy-912376-01 . When I do find it, it’s around $80. Plus, the power switch needs to be repaired. I have hung onto this, but I’m not sure it’s worth repairing. I went through a few Sharks and finally settled on a Karcher, which I hope lasts me longer than a few years.

Well one down side to Dysons is that they are incredibly complicated and come apart in about a million pieces it seems, especially the ball models. I found a link to someone who repaired a DC 18, I guess you can see if it’s worth the hassle. The power switch usually isn’t too bad to take apart though. eBay might be a good resource for parts depending on what’s wrong with it.

Ironically, my DC-18 slim was daily driver for well over 10 years, it has to be about 20 now. And that one has never had anything break!

I'm not really a Dyson person, nor would I ever use one in my own house. If I ever did used one of Dyson's dual cyclonic patent vacuums in my own home, it would be either a Amway/Workhorse or a Fantom/Kenmore. But the more that I come across with newer Dysons, the more that I come to appreciate and respect the older models.

DC-14

I remember before I got my refurbished DC-14 10 years ago I still very much had a bags-only mindset, but now it's been my daily driver for almost the entire time I've had it. Dyson gets a bad rap from some collectors. The older ones, probably up to until the DC17, will probably last 20 years of people take care of them.

I've abused mine, including sucking up water and never replacing the HEPA filter, but the motor still runs perfectly. I do need to replace the clutch and there is a rip in a a part of the hose, however. Right now it's set up in my closet with a 50-foot central vac hose attached to it, and I can vacuum all my house with an Electrolux combo tool. So much quieter and 100% recommend it.

Not sure about the cordless ones though. I'll never get one since once the battery dies, you'll have to throw the whole thing out. Time will tell how long those last. But with the early Dyson clones to the mid-2000s models, I'm a fan.

DC07

Before I got my Dyson DC07 Animal 13 years ago, my family was using filter-based bagless vacuums, which were dominant from the early to mid-2000s. Now the DC07 has been our daily driver for a very long time, until my mom took it with her upon my parents' divorce 7 years ago. Since then, I've used other bagless vacuums until I gifted her with a Hoover Air Steerable a couple years ago. I then got the Dyson back and returned it to its rightful owners (my family).

Mine has gotten some abuse, including sucking up plaster dust and carpet powder, but the motor still runs perfectly. The clutch and HEPA filter were replaced a few years ago, which was a good move on my part. However, there is a big rip in the hose, and the pre-motor filter is dark and faded. I ordered replacements for both of those parts late last year, but haven't gotten around to actually replacing them yet.

I'm not sure about the modern Ball ones, though. I can't decide whether or not I want one, as the plastic on them feels creaky and cheap compared to my DC07. It's rather disappointing for such a pricey vacuum.

As for cordless Dyson models, I ditto what bagintheback said. I personally would not want to buy a cordless vacuum that has planned obsolescence. But my DC07 Animal is a tank, so I'm going to keep it for as long as I possibly can.

I have Dyson moods time to time. There is just something special about them when comparing to other bagless vacuums. I have DC40 MKII what has improved cleaning head compared to the original DC40. MKII model is very close to the US Ball Multifloor 2.

I wished Dyson would've sold this model for a bit longer. In my opinion this was one of their better performing uprights ever made.

DC17 & DC27 is a gem what many doesn't know about.
They have WAY better brushroll than anything else Dyson made at the time.

I like em!

I generally really enjoy using Dysons, as it's satisfying to see all the crud the vacuum has collected, and you can just empty them afterwards and move on. A lot of their models have their benefits and drawbacks, but my favorite models, and their cordless machines are still in my regular rotation.

I am bittersweet with Dysons. I own a couple myself, with recently traded in DC35 Handheld, almost brand new with all of the attachments, and an Animal Canister of the DC40 series. My dad is a floor installer and he and I are dead against customers owning Dysons because they chew up new carpet horribly, you can tell because the bin just gets filled with fibers all of the time. I've used an Animal DC25 for a couple of years but then sold it to a customer.
