What specifically comparing (early 1974- some [ugh sounding old kinda] mid 00s brand models particularly curious of kirby classic omega- 2006 manufacturing year sentria's, and 90s "handy" royal dirt devil (103? &/or 500) hand vacuums for the effectiveness on low glue down type carpet... also how they compare with a windsor vers(a?)imatic 14/18 preferably the 14 just feels more strength with narrower "opening area" and also comparisons of all three mentioned vacuum type & models to sanitaire uprights (specifically the red kind)

Yikes! I can't give you comparisons but,

I can tell you that my Kirby guru, who taught me about everything Kirby says that he has custodian customers who run their Kirby's all day long at work. Classic's and Omegas were used a lot. The newer Kirby's are self propelled which is nice when you're dealing with a lot of territory to vac.

Sanitaire's are strong performers as well and like Kirby's parts are easy to come by. They are so simple in design there's just not a whole lot to break down. Hope this helps a little, I just really wanted to get the ball rolling on your thread, maybe others will jump in with more knowledge! Billy

I wouldn't think the transmission on the Kirby would hold up with commercial use. They are just plastic and nylon hybrid gears and cogs. They strip out just in a residential environment after so many years.

Kirby actually made commercial vacuums back in the day, the ComVac, but I never owned or seen one outside of photographs so not sure how well they actually did.

I have glue down commercial pile in my basement and the Kirby just destroys it, the agitation and the suction turns the glue to dust and it just goes *crunch crunch crunch* when you walk over it after vacuuming. Keep in mind though the glue and carpet on mine is about 40 years old so that is expected, but not sure what it would do to newer material.

The Kirby didn't "destroy" the carpet glue--AGE did-the Kirby just dislodged the aged glue through the carpet!Have seen this in other places with glue down carpets.
