I wonder why the manufacturer called this a Duplex? Seems strange to use a name normally used for a kind of residential building...Does anyone know where they got the name from?

Nice work

Looking good.....
Those rocker type on/off switches kill me...a simple method of conducting electricity...not sure how safe they are but I've never seen one short out
due to arching

They called the Premier "Duplex" in referring to the suction from the fan along with the motor driven brush. The first Duplex models had the wheels on either side of the nozzle. The ones with the wheels behind the nozzle were called "Master Model". Stan Kann (the king and grandfather of vacuum collecting) explained it all to me once. But that was decades ago.

Thanks for the explanation, it was my guess but it's nice to be sure.

The Premier '47', cool machine! I've got one to but haven't had a chance to really restore it other than cleaning and regreasing the motor and replacing the cord. I'm fortunate to also have the '37' model alongside it.

Thanks for the explanation, Tom. Whenever we gave in our blue Eureka 260 for a tune-up at Vacuum Rebuilders, they often gave us an old Duplex as a loaner. I used to get the name confused with Quebec's former premier Premier Duplessis!!!

Amazing job!! I wonder why they made a duplex in the Model 47 design. The 47 didn’t have anything stamped on the front, had a different badge, and said “47” on the bag.
