Good Day Fellow Vacuum Enthusiasts and Collectors,

I have been a silent observer here on the site for close to 9 months now. I joined in June of 2020. I really became a member so I could scroll through the discussion threads to read up on & gather information about Electrolux vacuums for the purposes of starting up my own personal collection.

My first vacuum purchase came from eBay from a seller in the United States: a 1401B Olympia One (at least I'm 99% certain that it's 1401B). I took a chance on this one because it was in the US, but mostly because it was rebuilt by an experienced professional ---the seller, himself ---and I desperately wanted a vintage model to start my collection. This Olympia One was an ideal candidate.

When I received it, I was in awe over its excellent condition. The seller did superb work on this machine! It works beautifully, and has everything included with it except the original user's manual.

I can take some pics of it and post them, if there's interest.

The hose is not original, however; instead, it came with the more modern vinyl electric hose, in tan or beige colour, to match the rest of the vacuum's colour scheme. It has been repainted in places, but you'd only know that by close inspection.

These days, however, I have decided that I want to trade it for what I'm really after: a green Canadian ZB89 Elux-o-matic, 100% complete, and in working condition. It's what my mother cleaned our place with when I was a little boy. Her time spent cleaning with that ZB89 is what got me fascinated with vacuums in the first place. Go figure... Even my grandmère (I'm French-Canadian) had one, too. I think hers was a ZB89, too, although hers was the cherry red & white cream one. (Maybe hers was a ZB88 --I'm not 100% sure ...just going by my memory).

Please forgive my reminiscing. If this post has unknowingly crossed any boundaries for the rules of the forum, please accept my apologies and let me know and I'll remove it. Is anyone looking to acquire a US-made Electrolux Olympia One for a good price, or want to do a trade for a green Canadian ZB89?

The floor is yours, my fellow collectors. I remain at your service.

---Thank you very much, Chad L.

And, feel free to reminisce all you want! This is the 'safe place' to share, teach, ask, show, learn. Although I'm ALL "Hoover", I appreciate others and what they collect.
Good luck on a nice 'collection'.
John

Welcome Chad,

I am in Ontario also about 3 hours north of Toronto. I also remember the ZB89 and am fortunate to have found one several years ago. I have both the original cloth hose as well as a vinyl hose that I use every day.

Thank you so much for the quick-links and the kind welcome.

I have checked out that ZB89 on eBay for quite some time now. It does not include the power nozzle, but maybe it never came with one (who knows). I have tried contacting the seller, in the past, about the quality of the original hose. Unfortunately, he/she never saw fit to respond back to me. I'm gonna keep an eye on it, though. One never knows... Cheers!

Welcome Chad!!! Nice to read a post from yet another cleaner-phile from Canada here. Vacuumland has taught me so much - especially how to appreciate those quiet Electrolux canisters that were made right here on the West Island of Montréal. Had I been old enough when it was open, I would have loved to work on that assembly line making Canadian vacuums!!! 😀

I've been a little busy, but I finally found some time to take a few photos of my Olympia One

Here are a few other ones. I turned it on today to remember how it sounds, and she purred like a big kitten. Motor is excellent!

Ridgidwd0670,

The vinyl hose is not a model G hose. I had a 2nd woven hose for the '89 but it leaked like a sieve so I removed the canister end coupling with the pigtail. I bought the vinyl hose on Ebay. It had a connector fitting for the plastic body lux's like the AP100, AP200, AP280, etc. I removed that fitting and attached the fitting from the '89 hose.
