I have a couple of questions for the folks here. I know some own their own cleaning businesses so I am hoping to get some helpful information.
The first is: my husband and I are of the age group that still uses hairspray. We're lucky to still have hair! We have a tile floor in the master bath and I'm wondering what is the best way to clean the dried hairspray off the floor? I've been using a very strong solution of ammonia, (hard on the eyes and lungs), Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and using my Bissell Crosswave to suck up dirty solution. Then I rinse with diluted floor cleaner, again using the Bissell. It seems really time-consuming. Is there a better way? We use industrial-type hairspray so after a week or so there is a pretty good build-up. The other is: I like the Bissell Crosswave but it seems so, "Junior Barbie Starter Kit Floor Cleaner" if you know what I mean--very plasticky, overall quality so-so, terrible with edges and designed for the lowest common denominator. Most of these floor cleaners are extracting as fast as the solution is going on the floor so there is no way to let the spinning brush roll really clean the floor without the soap solution being sucked up right away. Does any company make a floor cleaner with separate controls for cleaning/scrubbing and for extracting? I would like to be able to run the scrubbing part for as long as necessary depending on what type of floor and amount of dirt then elect to start extracting when I think it is ready. If anyone can help with these questions, please do! I am not opposed to a commercial machine if that is what it takes. Thanks! |

Have you tried a BONA mop and solution? It really cuts through gunk. Also try spraying the floor with 409 and then use a wet Bona mop on it to wash and THEN rinse the floor. I clean a home with a woman who uses lots of hairspray and this cuts it well. Greg |

I have used BONA but I thought it was for simple maintenance and not heavy cleaning. Maybe I'm using the wrong solution. I'll try the 409 next time and see how it works.
I have even thought of covering the tile with a clear coat paint on. It would seal it and make it easy to clean---if that can be done. |

Would it be possible to apply the hairspray in the shower? That way avoiding the situation all together. |

How the "mighty have fallen" It seems like a couple of years ago those were so reliable. Times change. And Bissell with things like the Cross-wave is a real innovator. |

We use mousse and gel in conjunction with the spray. As I said we are older and glad to hair at all. We've done the sheet thing..........PIA. As for going outside--its a bit of a trek and no mirrors. The foot thing has never been a problem since the early 1970s.
Worst case scenario, bump up the pay for the housekeeper who won't do it now. Make it worthwhile. I'm too old and I can pay! |

I have a Hoover Floormate that has the scrubbing function. It lowers the spinning brushes closer to the floor and turns off the suction. Unfortunately, I think it was only available as a QVC exclusive model. Which I’m sure is no longer available. I personally prefer the Floormate over the Crosswave.
Cleaner wise I recommend Pinalen. That stuff is amazing and there’s not much it can’t cut through. And a million times better than Pine-Sol.
