This is CLEARLY to a vacuum cleaner. I see some ads out there for one that would have a badge like this, but they are English.

When I first became a collector there was a Federal Electric upright on eBay for $40 shipped - I passed on it because I didn't know anything about it. That was 4 years ago and never seen another one since.

Look carefully at the article. This is about a Western Electric telephone assembly line that uses vacuum hoses to grab and install small telephone components. There was no Western Electric vacuum cleaner, as far as I know.

Maybe they didn't *make* the vac, if you look at the ad it is awful close to a Sweeper Vac from the same time. Maybe it was Sweeper Vac's way into the Uk market? The badge could be imported.

Also, google Western Electric Sturtevant vacuum. Looks like a partnership, Western Electric made the motors, Sturtevant made the rest. They made a few different kinds, none that have this badge though.

I think it’s more likely from a Western Electric fan like the ebay auction describes. We have some fan collectors here at Vacuumland...maybe they can confirm which fan this badge used to be on?

Also, if you google Western Electric fan, there are many models this badge might come from.

Well, it has sold

But... look what I found on old applianceads.com! Even I was getting a little skeptical about if this was to a vacuum, as the only ads I could find were for England. Looks like this description came from a review. There is a lot of cool ads and info on rare vacs there, like the Sloane and baby twin vacuna, which don’t have any known examples.
