Has anyone thought of a creative way to display your antique handhelds? I have tried a few things, regular shelves, hanging them from a bar in my closet on zip ties, none seem very good. I have quite a few oldies, some even with handles attached to the rear of the motor, and no good ideas for displaying them.
Thanks!

If you place at 45 degree angle three left 45 3 right 45. Symmetrical is how I plan to on my bucket list.

I seen a photo while just randomly freewheeling through Google images and I thought it was brilliant. Someone made a custom stand out of wood.

I imagine it could be tweaked for different vac designs and shapes.

IKEA used to have a wall shelf that looked really nice but its been discontinued sadly.

wish I could do like in the pics but I don't have but 5 hand helds. the Hoover Dustette-black and polished aluminum model with black bag with the silver lettering, Kenmore Jr. with the wood blocks holding the brush roller. GE that vibrates so bad I can't hold onto it so havent had it plugged in since we moved 20years ago. Hamilton Beach(polished aluminum with the dark blue bag and gold lettering) Royal prince, and Energex Jr. that doesnt work. what you got?

Not shown as they aren't here: Premier 97, Premier 102, Presto Vac Junior(similar to Presto JR shown), For parts painted Singer, for parts Westinghouse, gutted Bee Vac JR, Kenmore JR Deluxe w/ roller, Sweeper Vac 47.

Shown here left to right: Presto JR, Bee Vac Super Junior, *MINT* Westinghouse, Eureka Junior H that I just rebuilt, Commander JR(Birtman), Premier 86.

The Commander needs bearing work, Presto needs a plug but runs ultra quiet, at only .7 amps! Bee Vac and Westinghouse run great maybe a little dry, and the Eureka, although the switch is sticky even after contact cleaner, runs like a dream.

The Premier 86 doesn't run so well, even after rebuild, as the exhaust fan in the motor is loose on the shaft, so it sounds and runs like garbage even after oiling and cleaning. I may put my 102 motor in it and swap tags, as I absolutely love the look of the 86.

The last 4 pics are of my crown jewel handhelds, my Bee Vac and the amazingly minty Westinghouse. The Bee Vac is missing the bag support.

I hope to add more to the collection soon!

very nice

johnnyb59c's profile picture
I think my Kenmore Jr. is missing the wire bag support, however all of them that I have seen of that model have a limp bag. it runs nice and the original cloth cord is in really good shape. I would like to have one of the real old Polar Cub ones- same motor as on my little 6" fans I think they actually used the same Polar Cub/Gilbert motor on Erector sets and sewing machines. I even saw one on a real old pencil sharpener at an AFCA convention. since the fans are just a "plug-in"(no switch) the motor is very high speed and small print on ads say to put them on a book or something so they don't "walk" off the table. I think they were actually made around 1915-the mid teens. they are small enough to set on an upside down coffee cup. I wonder what a hand vac with that motor would sound like?

I don't know but hopefully I will find out soon; I will be bidding on the one from that auction site. If I get it I'll make a video of it and send it to ya, I'm pretty curious about it myself! I've got the patent for it in my A. Thompson thread. I know the Hamilton Beach home motor did a similar thing, it had an upright attachment you could bolt it to. Never seen one outside of the ads though.
Btw I sent you an email about that GE, I might be able to fix it for you.

GE and Energex

johnnyb59c's profile picture
here they are- I hope to get the Energex working one day. it's been in a box in parts for about 20yrs now. I believe I have all the parts. just gotta figure out how it goes back together. I always take pics of stuff I disassemble so I know how exactly it came apart- like my 1C Kirby. I took over 150 pics as I rebuilt it. Sadly I did not have a digital camera when I got the Energex so not gonna be easy. so far the Kenmore Jr. is my favorite because it runs real smooth and quiet. it is missing the support wire in the bag though. The cord looks original to me because of the Belden end. and do you know if theres supposed to be a grill on the bottom of the nozzle or not?

Huh

hoover300's profile picture
Never seen a Kenmore Deluxe bag like that, mine has the Bee Vac bag shape and the oval logo. Yes, there is supposed to be a clip-in grille.

That Energex is awesome, just like my Commander in design. When I get around to working on the bearings on mine I'll send pics on how it goes together. I have the Energex upright for sale, so if you ever want the set... lol

That GE is gawgeous, I've been looking for one of those unpainted ones for awhile. Would you be interested in selling it, or possibly trading it for a different handheld?

If not, I just checked, I have a spare fan and bearing(which is probably what it needs) I'd be willing to sell so you can get it back up and running again.

I'd be willing to trade either my Premier 97, Presto Vac Junior, Kenmore JR Deluxe(like yours, but different bag) or my Westinghouse w/ the tan bag, which is in pieces right now but I can easily get back together. It is almost mint, but the cord developed a short and won't turn on now. I can't get the pin for the fan out, otherwise I'd fix it.

The pic for the presto is a bit old, I have since added a switch. The paint on its handle is very flaky, I have been touching up the many spots with black sharpie to kinda conceal the flakes. I can't physically get a belt on it due to the design, although it has the roller.
The Kenmore is a little rough cosmetically and the switch is sticky but it otherwise works fine.

The switch on the Premier 97 is sticky and it needs a polish but works as it should, cord is decent and the bag and motor are great. Going by other videos of it, it sounds like what it should, aka an air raid siren. lol

Should we continue this over email? I don't want to crowd the thread too badly. All photos are older ones as I don't have the vacs on hand at the moment, which is why they aren't great photos.

Or do you mean a monetary offer?

hoover300's profile picture
Sorry I've had a long day. If you don't want a handheld in return, I'd pay $15 plus shipping for the handheld in that condition.

Not on facebook or any social media, you might still have my personal email. If not, my vacuum-related email is in my profile.
