Hi all,

Brand spanking new member to this excellent forum, though I have poked around here many a time in the past.

Can anyone point me to a reference guide to original Hoover cloth bags along with Model numbers or dates in use? I see a number of possible variations in period advertisements, but I'd love to know what kind of bag my Hoover 725 "should" or "might" have had from the factory.

Has anyone cataloged these? Or cross-referenced with dates, or serial numbers?

Thanks for your thoughts!
Michael

There is a noted Hoover "guru" on this forum (gottahaveahoove) who should be able to answer any and all Hoover related questions. Let's see if he does.

Here are photos of the

700 and 725. The main difference between the two (in styling) is the orange pin stripe on the motor of the 725 as well as the orange curly Q on the 725 bag.
The 700 is a bit more “plain” though it is the one I prefer.

Ah! Thank you for your reply and pics.

Mine is a first model 725, based on the serial number. Seems to have been refurbished in the 40s (late 30s?) having acquired a coat of beige textured paint on the housing. The bag looks about the same era (1940s)

I’ll start a new thread with pics.

Thanks again!

He may love hoovers but I'd consider a guru knowledgeable help.

I always just looked at period advertisements but I never knew if the bags pictured could have just been pre-production artwork for the ad or if it actually made it to production. All my Hoovers are rebuilds so they have a assortment of period rebuilt bags.

A pic of the bag I have

Yes, I am also looking at period ads for help. I wasn't sure if there was an existing catalog of bag styles (with dates) — seems not. If if there ever was, it's in the Hoover Corporation Archives somewhere perhaps.

Here's a pic of the current bag my Model 725 (early) came with when I purchased it. I suspect it is a late 40s era, but could be pre-war replacement stock? I'm curious as it may give me some additional clues about when this machine was overhauled.

I'll come back to this post and give you the new thread Post number for my "in progress" updates on my restoration with pics.

Thanks to all of you for your replies and comments! Much appreciated.
