Normally I would scoff at a price like this, but seeing as this is the third one I've seen in like the past 6-7 years, it seems more reasonable. Maybe he'll go down a bit? It is a private label Clements machine, just like Madman's vac.

This is a slightly later machine than mine, gotta be either barely post-war or pre-war. It has the round bottom access cover of later machines, and the model plate is slightly later by having 120v printed instead of stamped, but not late enough to have the UL listing info on the model plate.

The model number 43A1941 is reminiscent of the Packard and Lincoln models that were model designated by year. Actually, 43 sounds like a Cadillac model designation. I have a model 41.

Appears to have an oil port, so plain bearings.

It could well be the - 1941 was the year of production. I have a Packard model 1939 upright and I always wondered if the model indicated the year it was made.

In the case of the car-badged ones, I'd wager it does. I've seen a few Packards and Lincolns that all have differing model numbers, and then you get the ones older than a certain year that are Clements, and Royal afterwards. That's good evidence to suggest that they were commissioned by car dealers (maybe manufacturers) to go along with certain model years of cars.

Cadillac is the exception, though, as the vacuum brand was trademarked before the car company existed, and the name was used as its own marque. It's still used, Clements was bought by National something or other, and they took the Cadillac name with them when they separated from the blower manufacturing division.
