Here's my 1937 Electrolux Model 30, complete and all-original! This model in various iterations was made from 1937-1954. Originally it was called the "Model 30." At some point the name was changed to "Model XXX." There are many differences between the first and last version, some minor some major. Note the beautiful woven hose in which the weaving was opposite from the later models -- dark gray background with light gray XXXs as opposed to light gray background with black and white XXXs.

That is a beautiful machine. The XXX and LX are two of the most beautiful pieces of industrial design. My grandparents had one that was still in regular use up into the mid '90s. I have no idea what happened to it. I wasn't into vacuum cleaners back then or I would certainly have grabbed it. But that machine most likely led me to the appreciation I have today for classic Electrolux canisters. If I had a bucket list machine, that would likely be it.

this is the 1939 and 1949- mine might not be as nice as some but I'm proud of what I have-and the kids love 'em!(I even have a couple short videos with them playing with the "bacKum kweenos")

Jason, thanks for the photo comparisons. I'm working on a detailed comparison of all the aspects of the 1939 and 1949-1954 models. While I think the 1949 model is more beautiful and streamlined, I do like the original for the sake of its having been the first.

Tom, yes, this is the machine you sent me in 1993 or 1994, with a few things added over the years including the hose which I just recently found. It's one of the most prized members of my collection.

Charlie:
I remember the day I found it. I thought the leatherette was very dirt with coal dust until I realized it was supposed to be that dark. Lovely hose. So glad she is still one of the Jewels of your collection.

Model 30

Charlie,

Congrats, there is nothing quite like a complete and mint equipment.

In 1941, with all the aluminum shortages, Electrolux even made the carbon brush holders and bearing bridge out of bakelite.

I did a rebuild on my 1949. put what looks like almost NOS cord winder and found I had 2 companions amongst the stuff in the shed I was digging through. I'm pretty well set up! I need to get a nice hose tho so I can use it lots of fun cleaning my room and feeding it 3d printer scraps and shredded paper with the hose removed and watch the stuff swirl around!

Nice machine

I have my Grandmother’s XXX she bought new. Complete with everything except the original hose which was left at the Electrolux store as it was no good when a replacement was purchased in 1983 by my Aunt. It’s in great condition but the fastener for the handle broke long ago before my time but I managed to fix it with a screw and nut. I wonder what the original part was and if I could get one. It is the pin piece that holds the handle in the bracket at the center of the machine.
