Just decided to pop onto eBay (which I've been spending entirely too much time on already) and found some suitable attachments for my green Hoover Celebrity QS.
They are not the rare mint green, mind you, but they are the right style/era and appear to be in excellent condition. And will look much better I'm sure and still be cheaper than buying modern grey Portapower style attachments. There was no crevice tool included in the set though, but I'm sure one will pop up soon. For now I can use the gray one from my Constellation. Hoping to make a video and get some pics after they get here. As I was waiting to have a complete machine first. Everything else is all ready to go. I gave the power nozzle a complete cleaning and replaced the blown head light bulb. The canister also got the bumper removed and motor cover and handle taken off for cleaning. All the paint and chrome got polished with Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound and Turtle Wax Chrome Polish. Along with some Meguiars PlastX polish for the plastic and vinyl parts. All finished up with Turtle Wax Car Wax. I did have to order some new attachment lock rings for the hose end, and gray hubcaps for the wheels but they don't look too out of place. |

Yeah the (70s and 80s) Celebrities come up pretty often. It doesn't bother me much that the tools coming are white instead of green... there doesn't seem to be much of a difference as the green is very light almost white anyway. I'm just glad to have them coming. I'll keep watch in case the exact matching ones ever come up, but these will do fine... I finally found a set of tools for my Hoover Slimline last year on there too. So I don't have to look at those empty tool storage slots anymore!
I actually have a brown upholstery tool and furniture brush right here for that era Kenmore. They came from the one my mom had years ago, I don't know what happened to the other tools. But these I have aren't in very good condition at all. I'd keep watching eBay, I think I see those era Kenmore/Whirlpool tools come from time to time. |

That one you just posted is the same model I have. But I don't have the second set of wands, it only came with the chrome ones. I may outfit it eventually with the extra matt finish wands when I get more space. I think it's my favorite Celebrity model. There was the blue version also you mention, but I think it had the older power nozzle with the smaller headlight. There was also one just like the green but in creme/brown.
Another one I really like is similar to my green one but was gray with a light gray trim, and has an electronic power nozzle with indicator LED lights and two speed brushroll. Very cool. I think that was also the last Celebrity sold. I also really like the totally BOL Celebrities that were straight suction, no cord winder, and floated on air like the Constellation, instead of having wheels. The orange/brown model is probably the best looking, to me. The Constellation is probably my favorite Hoover, but the Celebrities have a lot more variation in models/features and are just more practical to use, IMO. Especially since some have the power nozzle. |

So today I decided to take my Celebrity for its maiden flight. I was surprised to find it’s a lot quieter than I expected.
However while I was vacuuming, it decided to start spewing out chunks of foam. Some of them were so big I don’t know how they fit through the exhaust. I have read about this problem before but was hoping I might get away with it not having this problem. But it looks like I’m going to have to do a true stem to stern restoration and make a new foam exhaust muffler. It always needs something. It was quite funny because while it was spewing foam I was trying to suck it all up with the power nozzle, but I couldn’t keep up! LOL After I cleaned everything up with my Eureka Boss, I decided the Celebrity made for a nice photo op. |

I used to have two of those minty green quadraflexes. They are fun even though they have a flat belt. |

So I got this replaced finally. Four nuts hold the bottom cover with wheels on.
As you can see there wasn’t much left of the diffuser foam! I measured it to be just shy of 3/4” thick. I got some cut to fit foam, one Duck and one FrostKing. I ended up using the FrostKing. There is enough to make two diffusers. I cut it to fit just inside the lower cover with an inner circle the size of the motor fan housing. The motor is an interesting design. It’s sealed between the lower bag chamber and the bottom cover via a rubber gasket. There’s a black plastic cover which fits via three plastic clips that covers the lower fan. It has a sort of helical curve pattern inside that seems to channel the airflow through the bottom hole. It also looks like they use the same lower housing for the cheaper floating Celebrities too. |
