A few weeks before posting this thread, I bought 2 new nozzles, by ordering them from Johnny Vac, for the Numatic James at my workplace, both of which are from Wessel Werk. At some point before that, I got the brushless nozzle modeled RD 285 and I made an attempt to soften the rubber strips using a solution being a mixture of rubbing alcohol and wintergreen oil, but it damaged the wheels and I couldn't replace them.
The 1st of the 2 nozzles is the swivel neck bare floor brush modeled D 330 and it's a decent attachment, doing an overall better job at cleaning than the combination tool that came with James. I didn't think that the castle-cut bristle formation would do a great job, but I was wrong, and the brush didn't make a scraping sound like the RD 285. The 2nd one is the turbohead modeled TK 286. I already got another one for the bagless Bissell canister at my home and the TK 286 is the only kind of non-electric carpet cleaning tool that I would trust (although I believe that the STB 305 and STB 205-3 for the Miele's are on par with it). It cleans better than the combination nozzle and the RD 285 but it makes a loud vrooming sound, although the volume lowers somewhat when the tool's directly on a carpet. One minor drawback is that neither one of the 2 new brushes can be parked on James. Another is that it's a bit tedious switch between them when going from bare floor to carpet and back to bare floor, but I established a routine where I clean the bare floor everywhere at my workplace and then swap nozzles and clean the carpets. The bottom line is that the upgrade is worth the investment. To Canadian readers of this forum thread out there, if you want a decent quality non-electric carpet cleaning accessory, I recommend the TK 286, but if you want it for a good price, buy one from Johnny Vac or from Vacuum Warehouse.ca. The tools's somewhat more expensive at Mc Hardy Vacuums and even more at Cardy Vacuums. I would still like to know if the turbo tool would do a great job when used with a wet & dry industrial canister that uses 1 1/4" attachments... |
