The collector in me overruled sensibility and previous allegiances with other vac brands. I saw Hoover celebrity ( round tank ?), celebrity and this blue model. The canister Celibrity was super condition but I’m not a fan. No one else wanted it either it seemed ( last day of sale is 50% offf). 420 watts ( dont see an amp rating). What years was this made? I see some possible service stamps though
I tore it down and cleaned it all up and blew it out. The belt is way too loose so I put on a decade 80 belt but it’s too small, a strongman competition this should not be . I couldn’t get it one. So out the old one on for the meantime. What belt does this require ? Same as the Model 61? What made me pull the trigger was all the accessories that came with it! Pretty cool I thought . I wonder what can one use to polish the plastic ? I tried what I had which is plastics lens restorer but I didn’t observe much of a difference on the area I chose. |

Nice find. I have two model 63s. Great vacuums and so quiet. I think a model 61 belt fits. A convertible belt is too small

I have no loyalty to brands, I like variety in my collection, but I naturally gravitate towards Kirby and Hoover.
That is a great classic Hoover, and in excellent shape. The bag looks like it got feasted on by an entire moth colony, but if you take it to a seamstress or garment sewing shop they should be able to fix up the holes cleanly. I am not sure if they made the plastic on these with actual plastic or if it was still Bakelite, so be careful with polish. I would take the hood off and test polishes on the underside of the hood first to make sure they don't damage it. I have heard several people on here recommend Turtle Wax ICE, and officially Kirby refurb centers use Flitz on their metal and plastic parts as a final sealing wax. |
