What is this capacitor on the motor for should I replace it or will I work with out it because it is leaking and it is sort of smashed by the clamp that holds it

There's a nice diagram here and more info if you wish to rewire a new one, or to close the void in the circuit without the capacitor.

I mean, technically, you could replace it with new capacitors. Give that it's a 3 wire capacitor, that will make it two capacitors in series with one lead being from where they are connected together. You'd have to guess at the capacitance unless it's written on the old one. And you'd need to get caps rated for AC use, and preferably 277v.
