I just saw on the news that a China-based company, Gray Star Tools, plans to buy Shopvac, rehire many, and resume making vacuums.
Williamsport, the home of Shopvac, is not too far from me.

Let's hope things go well.

I hope this goes through. I was shocked when I heard about Shopvac going under....such a shame this happened to such a recognizable brand. I sincerely hope Gray Star Tools brings back the company even better than it was before.

Thanks for posting and letting us all know John :-).

I think the company is Hangzhou Great Star Industrial.
they own some of the older tool brands that were sold off.
Arrow, Goldblatt, Pony, Jorgensen, Sheffield, Millers Falls, etc.

I just hope that they will keep jobs here and continue to assemble the vacs in the states.

"Assemble"

lol

c'mon, you know that - at best - they'll make everything in China, ship them to the US, put them in boxes here, and label it 'Assembled in USA.'

I said that back when it first happened that I knew someone would buy them out and get everyone back. Regardless of the logistics of it, its better than being dead.

I do believe Great Star makes branded tools for Walmart under their badge engineered name "Hyper Tough" and formerly "Master Mechanic".

Like I said last time, Shop Vac is a very small company with only just over 1,000 workers worldwide, with 430 of that amount at the main factory in Williamsport, so they are thrilled to be back again. It's a family. It's like when auto plants shut down, it has the same effect on the workers, it was their home for decades, they don't want to leave or see it go.

It looks like Great Star is only involved in it as the moneyman, and won't change the name or the company's business model.

--------------------------------------------

“GreatStar is buying this as a going concern and wants to bring back people who know how to make Shop Vacs,” said Fink, who spoke with company executives on Tuesday. “Their expectation is that it’s going to take around 150 days to get orders with previous customers back as they had sourced other container vacs when the closure was announced. As orders start to come back, they’ll grow the hiring of people. The key is to get Shop Vacs back onto the store shelves.”
