Hello. I have a Hoover WindTunnel Model U5472-900 (WindTunnel Supreme style) that I'm having a problem with. The vacuum says that the switch should be in the down position when it is turned off, but my vacuum turns on when the switch is slid halfway down and cuts out, and wont turn on when it is all the way down. Do I need to replace the switch? Also, the dirt sensor light stays on dirty all the time. Can I fix this, or would I be better off taking it to the Vac Shack?

I would replace the switch on it but check the actual rod see if its broken first. If its not broken then its time for a new switch.

How do I check the rod? Do I take the handle off?

Yea take the handle off of the machine and see if the rod is broken and check the actual on/off rocker switch and try turning it on by the rocker switch. If its still having the same problem its needs a new switch. If the rod is broken you need a new handle or rod if you're able to insert a new rod in.

Dirt Sensor light staying on probably means the sensor is dirty (or do Hoovers use a microphone type sensor?) I can't remember. Hopefully someone else knows. If it does use any eye, this usually can be cleaned with a dry cotton swab.

Can't the rod bend and not fully flip the switch.

Also the windtunnels do use the microphone type sensor.

I have the same Hoover

Try spraying some contact cleaner in to the switch and work it back and forth. If your contact cleaner has lubricant all the better! The rod to the switch is sometimes a little sloppy and loose. Check to see if it aligns with the switch and maybe see what you can do to make it contact the switch a little better. Billy
