@gottahaveahoover Appreciate it thanks man!

@Thevacomaticiec
Thanks !

I'd like to do more videos with vintage Vacuums but unfortunately they don't get the views to keep my channel afloat.

I don't understand what "keep my channel afloat" means.

I'm not a you tuber so that may be why I don't understand. That's why I put my pictures up here on Vacuumland. I don't know how to put them on you tube. Does anyone look at you tube anymore? I looked up a song last year but that's about it.

He has patreons. They pay money for select videos and a few other things. He gets some income from his patreons, advertisements and amount of viewers.
It's a source of income so he tries to appeal to what people respond too.
Nice collection I'd say a comment but every collectors different.

Tom,
1.3 billion users are on YouTube with 5 billion videos watched every day. It's very much alive as the second most visited website on the internet next to Google. It's the main revenue source for tens of thousands of its content creators

It is a source.....

of income to many. But like the Wild West was, it's awash with idiots, dolts and trolls. There is however much value/collective wisdom because if you go there looking for how to fix something or take it apart, you can usually find it.....especially electronic gadgets.

Even if the vids show incorrect procedure, you can usually see their mistakes which allows you the ability to do better.

The Gen Z's say YouTube is dead, but the numbers of viewers and traffic say otherwise. And you hear "YouTube is for old people" by the naysayers....

I was watching this vid once of a Russian guy taking apart a commercial Makita drill I have and reassembling. He couldn't remember how to reassemble it and just gave it his best shot. All he had to do at that point was go back and watch his own vid on how he took it apart.....so there is humor.

I guess it's over my head how to make money with videos. I make money fixing vacuum cleaners. I will honestly say I've never paid to watch a you tube video. But if people are getting an income from it, I guess it's like any other video you make to get paid for making (like xxx movies). I think of you tube as being full of song videos.

You don't pay to watch YouTube videos. People pay YouTube to advertise on YouTube and sponser content creators who then get a cut after so many views, constant uploads and subscriptions.

And, I've learned lots of things from watching Youtube.
It is a great source for movies, music, recipes, repairs, home tasks, etc.
I've been asked to post videos. Maybe someday I will.

The relevance of YouTube...

Absolutely. I do understand where younger people are coming from when they say that YouTube is 'dead'. It's not the trendy place they go to post and watch content created by and for their peers. They go to TikTok for that. Like everything else online, it's matured and evolved over the years. But that doesn't mean it somehow lacks any and all relevance. YouTube is a great resource for many things. I make wide use of YouTube videos in the classes I teach and for things I do at home. Watching a video of how to do something, (e.g., take apart and service a vacuum cleaner or replace the thermostat on a dryer), even if it is done by an amateur, is often more useful than reading printed instructions written by a professional--and I say this as a trained technical writer.

Wow. I pay no attention to advertising on-line (like You Tube). I watched a video of Nichole Scherzinger singing Purple Rain about a year ago on You Tube, and had to watch some 'pop up' advertisement. I made a mental note not to buy Finish Power Paks - ever.

Youtube is great. There are 'fix it' videos for almost any thing on there. I have learned how to fix the self propel mechanism on my mower, fixed the self propel on my Kirby, etc. There are reviews on every day products from every day people and so so much more. I learned how to play the organ from watching the lessons given by an organ teacher. It is a great source of information.

I really like YouTube. I watch it far more than what's on TV. You can learn a lot about different vacuums on there too, as people make videos of them. And repairs too as mentioned above.

Also I usually have music playing on it as background while I'm on the computer, such as I am right now.

It gets.....

kind of complicated of all the various ways you can make money on YouTube. Yrs ago if you had a million viewers, you were guaranteed some income.

I know a musician who has a channel and he makes his money buy selling intellectual property that he's created. He's one those guys that never made it "big", but he knows everyone in the biz and they all like him. In music we sometimes forget that the world is full of session musicians/music teachers and not just 'stars'.

The guys with good channels will spend hrs just to make one vid.....it's a long process if you do it right.
