What would cause a motor to run nominal then in a few seconds it slows down and then back up to normal rpm I’m afraid that this might damage the motor so why would it do that and how do I fix it.

Possible fix

I am not that good with motors, but is one or both of your carbon brushes stuck? In my experience, that can cause that kind of thing.

Assuming.....

something the motor is turning isn't the problem....brushes, commutator, commutator segments, armature windings etc.

Good YouTube vids on testing armatures.

I have a 1205 motor doing exactly this, but haven't gotten into it yet....pretty sure it has fresh brushes.

Check brushes, check all electrical connections. Quite possible one connection is going high resistance for a moment and gets jarred back into place.
