Hi All

Yet AGAIN I am having trouble with the belt slipping off my Hoover U652a Senior ! This leaves black marks on my carpet and trying to find the CORRECT belt is proving difficult. I had a belt which was extremely difficult and tight to fit, but it seemed to work well until recently. But the only belts I have now, are too large and slip off in seconds.

Could anyone help me find a UK Dealer that has the absolute exact and correct belt to fit a U652a please ? Or if anyone could donate me a couple of belts, I would gladly reimburse them.

Here's hoping !

Bearings

Check the bearings on the brush roll. Also check height adjustment.

Correct model number

The correct model number is 652A. The U prefix did not exist until 1975 with the HooverJunior model U1012.

Hi Les

Thanks for your reply.

Sadly I dont have the know-how to start taking my cleaner apart to check bearings. But if the bearings are worn, would that be the cause of whatever belt I think SHOULD fit....just comes off within seconds, and causes severe black marks on my carpets ?

Thanks
Derek

Well, if the bearings on the brush roll specifically were binding, yeah, the belt would burn (black stuff) and slip off. That's just one possibility, of course.

Brush

Roll explaination.
Imagine your brush roll has tires. The tires spin and the belt spins. The tires are the bearings. If you have a tire with a break that sticks one tire would spin slower than the other tire. If one bearing slows it will pop off the belt.
The sides of the brush roll are the bearings. If you put a finger on each side of the brush roll spin the brush roll. If it spins freely on both sides it's not the bearings. It would mean the belt is the issue. If one side of brush roll sticks it's the bearing.

Hi Les and Madman

Thanks for your further help !

I will try your test by removing the brush roll and spinning it in my hand.

Meanwhile can someone tell me exactly where in the UK I could buy the absolute correct size belt for a 652a Senior ? Or if you can send me one I will of course reimburse you.

Thanks guys !

You said something that piqued my interest. You said the belt was making black marks on the carpet. Your 652 is the same vacuum as our model 65 Convertible. I don't understand how the belt could be making marks on the rug, when the belt guard on the soleplate is covering the belt the whole time. Would you be so kind as to turn your machine upside down and take a photo of the bottom side of the cleaner?

Hi Dysonman !

The black marks on the carpet occur when the belt slips off, past the belt guard and comes into contact with the carpet. At this point the belt has slipped onto the "non guarded" part of the beater bar.

Here are two photos of the underneath of my 652 Senior. The problems I have had in the past with obtaining the correct size belt is I already have several large belts but none of them have "to fit 652" written on the rubber ! And as I dont have the wrapping they came in, I have no idea which belt is which.

Thanks
Derek

This is the size of the correct Hoover belt you need. I have put a standard 16.9 ounce water bottle with it for comparison. The belt you need is just a little bit bigger in circumference than the water bottle. But of course, the glitch in vacuum land has turned the picture sideways. You can still tell from the picture the size of belt you need.

Hi Dysonman

Thanks for the photo. I live in the UK so am not sure that the "standard" size bottle would be a useful guide...lol. Bottles come in all shapes, even though they may hold in all..500ml.

I have after much searching again...found some allegedly "genuine hoover belts" to fit amongst other models...a 652a. So have ordered a pack of 2. At least I will know when they come that they are DEFINETLY the correct size, so if when I have fitted when of those, it STILL slips off...then something is wrong with the bearings and if that is the case, I cant fix it.

Thanks for your help anyway !

Regards
Derek
