I've been buying Hoover convertible belts that are supposed to be heavy duty on eBay for a while. But the problem is after using one of my convertibles for over 20 mins or the next day the belt breaks! I'm sure convertible lovers had that problem before. Is there another kind belt that won't break on Hoover convertibles? Thanks.👍

Look for style ag belt or 44783.
I swear by that Hoover round belt.

Sounds like you got some old stock. Rubber belts dry rot. you might try getting some newer stock directly from Hoover's website or your local vacuum store.

Belts

Belts for Hoover that have a visible seam showing are the belts that break apart long before the belt is worn. When I get my hands on a belt that doesn't show where it was glued together last way longer. I store any belts I have in zip lock type bags as they do tend to dry out with time. I stay away from generic's if I can. Just my experience anyway.

Also

I had an older convertible that was going through belts like crazy, they looked sliced. The repair shop said my belt pulley had worn to a nearly razor sharp edge near the top, and was cutting in to the belt. Replacing the pulley did the trick for that machine. Sounds weird, but it was a high mileage convertible with a big appetite for rubber!

You can also use Eureka style RD belts with a convertible. In thick carpet they slip a little but they last a long time. Some of the convertible belts break after a very short period of time.

A LOT of the newer Hoover belts have a higher amount of plastic in them and don't stretch as well, meaning them break after one or two uses.

Hoover Company Vac Agitator Belt Styles Table 1940- & Poster

I constructed a quick reference table of belts to add to the belts poster that was initially uploaded by Hooverboy81 on another thread. Corrections/additions to the table invited.

Try this: soak the belt in hot water for a minute or so, and then try stretching it.
