So, having recently moved to London, Ontario, I make it a habit to check out Kijiji (Canada's version of Craigslist) to see if anything interesting has been posted for sale. About 2 weeks ago, I came across a ad for this Hoover Dimension 1000 canister vacuum. Since I have also owned a Hoover Celebrity canister vacuum, I was very intrigued to get my hands on this one particularly since the Dimension and Celebrity canisters are regarded by most collectors as Hoover's best models. So, I messaged the seller's son and made arrangements to pick it up.

When I met the husband and wife who were selling it, the vacuum looked in extremely good condition for a canister from the mid 1980's. The bag compartment was dusty (to be expected from a vacuum using single wall, non micro filtration bags) and the genuine Hoover bag installed had mostly gray, fine dust and carpet fibers....no real substantial dirt. This vacuum was obviously VERY well cared for. All tools present, bristles in good condition, and 3 extra Eatons brand Hoover Type M bags included. All it needed was a new power head belt and the pre-motor filter washed.

When I got it home and tried it out for the first time on my carpets....WOW! What a powerhouse. TONS of airflow and suction through the hose. This vacuum would easily match a Tri-Star, Kenmore or Filter Queen of the same period for cleaning power. No wonder these Hoover canisters are held in such high regard. This will get converted to use Miele GN bags and used as a daily driver for a while. It's good enough that it will EASILY match any modern canister, like my Miele Callisto with SEB228, for cleaning ability. I also have a NOS Hoover Windtunnel hand turbo brush with the adapter to use with canister hoses to use with the Dimension.

The one thing I cannot stress enough is the overall condition of the vacuum....besides some heavy scratching on the tool attachment door, this Hoover is in fantastic shape! Even the brush roll in the powerhead shows hardly any wear on the bristles and no rusting or paint chips. Oh, and did I mention I got this lovely Hoover for FREE?! Yep, that's right. The couple never did say why, but they sold a bagless upright as well, so I have to wonder if they thought it was too old to ask money for?

In the last pic are 3 powerheads and wand sets I picked up from the local St Vincent de Paul for only $5 dollars. So the powerhead will come in handy for the future, and nice to have a extra set of wands for the floor brush.

Enjoy the pics folks....
Rob.

Nice! I'm not a Hoover guru by any means, but my memory want's to think they were made in France??
