My Miele needs repair but the motor (which needs replacement) is hard to find. Could a vacuum store source one and install it?

You might have to go to a miele dealer, Their Dealers probably have the part you want, some of the dealers get parts from the company or maybe not, just saying, very cool to know you have a miele.

Plenty of parts, yes. Motors...maybe

If you're ok with a used motor, then chances are likely that you'll be able to find one. The S3 used Ametek/Lamb motors because that was before Miele started making their own. The only thing tricky about finding a new motor is the wiring setup. Most of these were variable speed and require more detailed wiring than just a single speed motor.

Yes of course that's kind of their purpose. put in your ZIP code on Miele's website and find an authorized Miele vacuum store by you.

They can, but it will be very expensive most of the time as they will be using OEM and at retail price. You might have better luck at mom and pop vacuum shops if it is a common vacuum (try several, the guys that hoard vacuums and parts have the best odds).

You can look online and find a motor yourself and have the shop install it for you too.

But it is very very rarely a motor can not be rebuilt. So always try rebuilding first.

Miele is tricky because they are imports and most of their userbase is in England and Germany. I have a rare Miele myself and pretty much everything I need for it would have to be shipped over from England, Germany, Netherlands. I haven't even looked at the motor yet, the previous owner trashed it as a garage vacuum and it's a big mess.

The whole point of a vacuum store is to supply vacuum cleaners, other cleaning products, and parts for vacuum cleaners. If you want to go to a dumpster store with a bunch of used junk- because they can’t afford to be a dealer for any major brands, you will not find a Miele motor. If they do have a motor, they will not know what model it fits. You’re probably going to have to bite the bullet and call a dealer to obtain the part. Don’t buy a used part on eBay and ask them to install it- most reputable stores will simply laugh at your idea or charge a $25 part fee (which is what my stores do).
