I usually steer away from bagless vacuums since I feel that its easier just to swap in a bag when the old one is full. I do own a couple of bagless vacuums, but they don't see any regular use. the ones in question are my Fantom Cyclone XT and my Vax X5, both are in relatively good condition and due to their parts not only being fail prone, but are also unobtainum I dont use them very much. I've had a few other bagless machines over the years, but they all found new homes eventually because I didn't think it was worth all the upkeep and usually I gravitated towards my Hoover Elite, one of my Convertibles or my Riccar Vibrance.

I usually like bagless better too. Although there's something about watching the dust spinning around that I used to think was really cool.

Usually with those pleated bagless filters, when they get dusty, I use a crevice tool on another (bagged) vacuum hose and suck out whatever gets caught in the filter.

Easier to just use a bagged vacuum to start with, IMO.

Get a bagless that A. doesn't allow so much dirt to bypass the cyclone to get to the filter and B. has an easy-to-get-to washable filter.

“Central vacuum rich”

Are you insinuating that people with central vacs are rich? Many of us who have the luxury of a central vac aren’t rich however as collectors it’s a choice weather or not we want them. There are collectors who get them used, collectors who move into homes/apartments that are equipped with them etc...
No offense but that seems like a really snobby comment that’s awaiting to start drama. Like you say “if you don’t like it, don’t comment and move on”. Alex was commenting on a thread and he’s rightfully allowed to...

Now back to the thread,
I do have a central vac actually quite a few, I prefer my bagged units however with a husky and 2 corgis (no I’m not rich but comfortable), they prefer to tear toys apart and the bagged units fill up quickly, so in the meantime I use a filtered cyclonic centralux with a perfect battery operated PN and I’m happy with it. If I pull out a portable machine usually it’s an electrolux or my perfect C-103 power team canister.

Cleaning the pleated dust bin filter

in a bagless for me was too messy. Banging the filter against the side of the trash can or using a whisk broom to comb out the dirt/dust and then knocking the filter against what ever is the worst. I felt the need for a shower after that ordeal. Vacuuming said filter works best with another machine (bagged)but you still haven't removed the dirt from your house, just another machine.

Dragging out another vacuum to clean up the first one just seems so extra. Just my experience, your mileage may vary. I'm glad we all have choices available. Think I'd like to use a central vac as a canister but wonder how loud they are in comparison.

Totally relate to op's photo, yuk!

I agree with Mike, central vacs are not for everyone and I personally think that is fine even though that's what I'd prefer to use for myself. Also Tristar and Aerus/Electrolux are not cheap either. In fact, they're just about as expensive or even more than some central vacs if not most of them when you buy them new today.

I'm also mainly a bagged person myself since I find more advantages with them than bagless. However though, the only bagless vacuums that I can actually stand with using and there's a slight chance that I may go for one in my own house are true cyclonic central vacuums particularity the Vacuflo ones such as the 566Q or the 760. No bags or filters to ever have to buy, clean, or replace.

Yeah, not-washable pleated filters are a stupid idea. I like the washable foam ones.
