Hello Vacuumland folks!

My name is Zach, from Wyoming and I am a proud owner of a Simplicity Synchrony vacuum!

This bad boy has been working great for quite a few years for me and my woman.

As of lately though, he has developed a bad vibration when switching over to the "Carpet" mode. Upon inspection and a live bench test I think the bearings on the brush roller have gone bad. I put it on my work bench and live tested it. Pulled the roller out and the bearing don't seem bad but one side does feel a little bit of a hard spot.

The belt looked fine but since I have it torn apart I might as well replace that too.

Is it normal to have the roller go bad like this and cause a horrid vibration? I hope so cause I no longer have a vacuum repair man where I live.

Thanks a million,

-Zach

It does happen. I'd check your clutch pedal and spring this has been a culprit in the past for me.

I have repaired hundreds and hundreds of Synchrony's. Sounds like the dirty air motor's fan. Be sure to remove it and check for cracks (especially visible from the back of the fan blade itself). I guarantee you that's the problem. The belt is a lifetime belt, so save the money and buy a new fan.

Les, this is a synchrony the tandem air machine with two motors there is no clutch assembly on them I think you're thinking the symmetry which are a single motor clean air machine.

Tom probably has this right though typically when you encounter vibrations it's going to be the fan in the direct air motor though if you have found that the bearings are having issues it definitely doesn't hurt to replace them while you have it apart.
You may be tempted to try to run the machine while the brushroll is out to isolate the issue but due to the hall sensor that little wheel that touches the belt as it runs it will shut off the lower motor very soon after it's started because when that little wheel is not turning the machine is going to assume that the brushroll has jammed so it will activate the shut-off for the direct air meant to protect the belt.
So I would first start with those brush roll bearings since you already have identified them as a problem most simplicity dealers or riccar dealers should have them on hand. Just be sure you're getting the right sized ones as machines like the symmetry used a larger size bearing the ones in the synchrony and the synergy brushrolls are smaller in size
