Hello. I could really use some advice. I just bought a Kirby Legend II hoping I would be able use it as an everyday vacuum. I was told it was in good shape and just needed a new belt. I am so confused though because in all the youtube videos I've just seen the metal plate on the bottom of the nozzle comes off when you turn 2 latches on the back. I looked up a diagram for the Legend II and I think they are called 'rivet latch assembly for floor plate', but I could be wrong. I'm attaching a pic of the back where the missing latches should be. I'm not sure how I would attach new ones though, or if I'm just missing some really obvious way to get the plate off so the belt and brushroll can be replaced. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. The nozzle is no. 140062. Thank you.

I could be wrong but i don't think they are missing. Some early Kirby heads did not have those

Amanda,

What you have is the very rare 13" wide nozzle for your machine, and as you have stated it does not have the twist-lock latches but the old-style hinges. So, nothing is missing on this.

These were the parts used:
140869 - nozzle bumper rivet
144088 - belt lifter body casting, maroon
144181 - belt lifter spring washer
144281 - belt lifter hook
144681 - belt lifter flat washer
144781 - belt lifter assembly screw
145481 - belt lifter cap bearing
146388 - belt lifter label (top)
146684 - belt lifter instruction label
146788 - belt lifter label (bottom)
147988 - nozzle bumper, 13", maroon
154169 - brush roll adjusting screw
154456S - rug plate assembly w/gasket
1545 - rug plate hinge rivet
1547 - rug plate hinge
1548 - rug plate gasket
155281 - brush thread guard
301282 - belt (use 301289 or 301291)
500505 - brush roll assembly (NLA)

I have a similar 13" nozzle for my Heritage II. The newer bare-wood brush rolls will have color-coded end caps to help you understand which side goes where: the black cap end is the larger of the two ends, and the white cap end is the smaller one.

Here is a video of David Greer's Legend II with the 13" nozzle in action:

Looks like your nozzle does not have the twist-locks. What is pictured on the back are just hinges. Grab the baseplate (rugplate) from the front and swing it on down - the brushroll will come with it; it is held in by only friction. When removing the brushroll (by bending out the metal holders slightly), note which side goes in where, as it has to go back in exactly how it came out (so belt is in center channel of rugplate). One end of the brushroll has a larger mount and it should only install one way.

thank you

Thank you all so much. I finally got if off, it was just stuck and I was pulling from the bottom and panicked when it wouldn't budge. Thanks for the help :)
