First of a large haul! Does anyone have any info on this? I picked it up on Nextdoor for $10. The only issues were a broken strain relief and a single crease in the bag door from the suction imploding it. I have only seen one other like it, and it was the deluxe model with the slider on the head. Was the a commercial edition or something? It just says 7.2 amps on the head, nothing else.
Thanks!

I've got one

I've got the Deluxe model of this. The one you saw might've been mine. There was one heavy duty commercial model made of this, with no headlight. This is the third time I've seen a dirt devil with this type of color scheme. Recently on my trip, there was a Dirt Devil Upright soft bagged with that color scheme NIB.

I've only seen these illustrated on the packages of bags - I never seen one personally or even a photo....wow! Looks like one of their simpler uprights.

I think yours is heavy duty model.

I've not seen them in person. I have two from that era, a red DD 7amp and an all black DD Deluxe with 10 amps. The bag lid did cave in on the 10 amp if something blocked the hose while using it. Your hand over the hose would cause this to happen. After a while the plastic fatigued and a crease would start in the middle of the lid. They fixed that in later models.

I'm curious as to what the difference is between their 7&7.2 amp motors is. Maybe 2 stage on the 7.2? Maybe just a marketing ploy to sell more vacs! This was during the great "Amperage War" between the brands where just about every year or two the motors were increased by an amp until they all leveled off at 12.Could be DD's 7.2 was Royals first pony in this race. For being 27 years old your looks great!

I believe this was the model that was sold in Costco (Price Club) at the time.

7.2

regularrett69's profile picture
The 7.2 is a 1 speed motor. There are no dirt sensor on these red and black models. I don't know if this is the same as other Uprights, but the 7.2 amp motor is an AmTek Lamb motor. It is relatively quiet. It's loud, but doesn't scream so it sounds quiet. At least it does in my head. I'll attach a picture of mine. I've also got a couple of eBay listings with my Upright Deluxe in the background. Mine has the Edger.

These early models were also

Made In The USA! At a MSRP of 169.95 in 1992 dollars, they were priced above many others. Singer had a 59.95 BOL model out at the same time.A no frills design and a decent Lamb motor are probably why they are still out there running after some 28 years later.
